Champions Online is an MMORPG by Atari taking place in the Champions universe. Players can customize a hero and do missions in the Champions world.

    Why should you play?
-An incredible amount of customization options for your hero- from physical appearance to powers.
-You can create teams for you and your friends to take on chellenges.
-A bit more interactive combat than most MMOs with the ability to selectively block enemy attacks.
-At a certain point you can create your own archenemy.
-You can buy "Atari Points" (the game's currency) using your Steam wallet.
-FREE TO PLAY (with travel power and champion class restrictions- however, no level restrictions)

There are some old threads, but it seems like all of the OPs have managed to get themselves permabanned or the OP hasn't been updated in years

Might as well have a new thread if he's going to update it

I tried each of the free classes they offer to Silver players, and didn't enjoy how they worked very all.

I loved playing as Power Armor immensely back in the beta, but it's only available to Gold members, and I don't want to pay for something in a free to play game in order to enjoy it.

Maybe if some of my friends decided to jump in, and we made a huge group, then I could see getting a 2-month card or so, but right now, I don't think I can see myself jumping in.

Had an account from when I beta tested it. Figured I'd give it a whirl, and converted the character I liked the least to silver level.

After the fact, it looked like he got mugged in an alleyway and they took everything he owned, including his clothes. Seriously, 3/4 of the stuff I had is premium. Quick trip to the tailor fixed that issue, but I wish they'd let you re edit your hero when converting, or at least show you what will be lost when you do so. Certainly was a bit of a shock when it happened, and I've gonna wait on converting my good one till I get some money to set him up proper(earning atari points ingame would be nice though)

So far though, I am enjoying the game quite a bit, and the cash shop stuff doesnt seem to over the top.

I had a shit load of fun customizing my character, then left after I started playing. The UI was just too disorganized and I couldn't tell left from right.

The playerbase is primarily composed of either demons, scalies, or furries. It's just too much man; I want to see a genuine looking hero for once

I try to make my heroes look actually good, but when I walk around a town, all I see is DARK DEMONZ or furries, not to forget about the female characters who are mostly near-naked and have the biggest breasts possible and the tiniest bodies, it just makes me feel bad when I walk around with my hero actually looking sensible

Well it certainly doesn't help that the majority of the female clothing choices emphasize the chest or the ass. Here I am trying to make a casual-looking or soldier female that isn't focused on being sexy, and the only actual 'pants' are either tights or bike shorts. There's barely any actual shirts as well, and they're so thin they might as well be tights instead. :colbert:

It's the one free mmo that I've enjoyed in awhile, feels like I can ignore most of the cash store except for the adventure packs, which I might buy in the future.

Played before it went F2P, had myself a sweet force type character that could jump insane distances. Customization is huge.

Was stupidly unbalanced though, fucking teleportation in arenas......

Would that be like buying ISK in Eve or gold in WoW?
Or is it more like the Nexon Cash for cosmetic items in Maplestory?

Is everyone else stuck with the default archetypes?

Is the PvP in this still absolutely disgusting?

I remember seeing 2 guys duel each other in the main city and watching that fight was probably the most amazing thing I've ever watched as far as MMO's go... It was better and more awesome than actual Hero vs Villain fights from movies.

But you get into a PvP arena and it's just Fly around and use ranged powers. People who use Melee are completely fucked, people who don't have a flying travel power are double fucked, and it's just horrible

I haven't played any of those games. Basically if you don't have Atari points you're fucked, as a lot of things like travel powers are restricted. And if you're not paying for a gold account every month you're especially fucked. The big sell of the game was to create your own personalized hero, yet with a free account that only goes as far as appearance. Customization of powers and types of heros are gold only.

I don't know man, Soldier archetype has served me pretty well thus far.

The only thing I see myself buying is the Jet Boots travel power when I hit level 35.

Also, does this support debit cards? I don't know if it does or not, because it keeps rejecting my card and I don't know if it's just because I have not enough money on it or if the site flat out doesn't accept debits.

I love this game, it's really fun. The only issue I have with it is absolutely horrible performance. On the lowest possible settings (so the game looks like shit), I get a maximum of 35 FPS. On highest settings it drops to around 25 to 30 FPS.
I've fiddled with all the advanced graphical options, troubleshooting options and so on, it just refuses to run well.
I doubt it's the fault of my hardware, I can run every other game I own at 50+ FPS... does anyone else have these issues?
I have an nVidia GPU, and I saw a forum post in the CO forums about nVidia users having low performance, there were no fixes though.
Does anyone else have terrible framerates when they really shouldn't be?

My attempt at making a Space Marine from WH:40k.

Just solo'd Aftershock, damn that was intense. I didn't expect that kind of thing from a superhero game.
