Playing as Gold is nothing like playing as Sliver because Sliver can't freeform, which means they will never be anywhere near as powerful as Golds. The Archetypes suck ass compared to freeform, it's like your playing with a quarter the power of a Gold member as Sliver.
I can 1 or 2 hit most enemies as a marksman, and I rarely die solo on missions that are 2-3 levels higher than me. I'm not really sure I would want any more power than that.

You dont have more power, just more power options. Its not like golds get a damage buff.

No, they do technically get more powers and talent points.

Well they can get more powers to make their already powerful character even more powerful, for example "Form of the Swordsman", which basically gives you an insane damage boost with only a slight increase in power cost, and since my Blade got that skill the damage output rose by about 50% averaged. Freeforms can just take more skills like that. They can, for example, take a couple of skills for massive damage output, like Scything Blades with the afore mentioned Form of the Swordsman, then they can get that Invulnerability passive, get some kind of really powerful block, possibly the Ice one and something for self healing and they can basically be a King of All Trades, instead of a Master of one.

Precisely. My Dual Blader is a tank, DPS machine, and self healer all in one. With a dodge rating of over 100% at all times, an avoidance rating of 75%, my main attack being a sphere AOE around myself that continuously attacks and also absorbs a giant amount of damage every time I use it while crt'ing on average 90% of the time each hit (and also hits them again if they attack me while I'm using the skill), and a prema heal that heals me every couple of seconds and again every time I dodge an attack--he's so ridiculously overpowered that I don't even play on him much anymore. I can fight mass groups of things 6+ levels above me and not even take any damage, my health bar doesn't move at all. Whatever damage they do is reduced from dodge and then another chunk taken off from the 75% avoidance, and then of course because I dodge every attack I get healed from it, in addition to the prema heal I already have going, and we can't forget my main attack, which absorbs a base amount of damage right from the start and has no actual cool down being tied to the attack. Ontop of all of that is my form toggle that gives me a damage buff every time I dodge an attack. And the funny thing is, my Dual Blader isn't even wearing high end gear and is only level 23. I haven't even hit his peak yet. All of this is possible because I took specific skills from many different power sets that on their own aren't worth much, but when combined create a near invincible character.

Now tell me Gold players have only a slight advantage over Sliver. The difference in power between them is unreal.

I suck so much at trying to figure out a good power set that my one-month Gold time was practically wasted by shitty characters where I impulse-bought attacks en masse.

Also, I really hate Blade-types that use a Hold attack and then slice you to death while stunned. Since my characters are usually ranged, I can hold my own against players in my level range if they're also ranged (unless they have a passive); the moment a melee player attacks me, I either wipe the floor with them because they have basic attacks or they curbstomp me by doing faster and stronger damage outputs before I can blink (because of, again, passives).

I never said I like it or didn't like it. And I made my Dual Blader the way he is specifically to see how far I could take him into overpoweredness. I made him what he is for no other reason than that.

I'm totally confused now. I had reached level 23 and had finished up pretty much everything within my level range at the Desert and Millenium City when Kinetik tells me to go to Canada. I get sent to a Crisis Area that's meant for level 6 people, and when I breezed through it I got sent to a guy who has MORE low-leveled quests (well, the guy Kinetik sent me to had missions appropriate for my level, but this other guy I was directed to, Justiciar, is almost exclusively low-level). I feel like I'd be missing out on cool lore and plot stuff if I ignore the lower-level stuff, so is it wrong if I tried to do them?

You took the helicopter which is supposed to be an alternative to doing the city missions. A year and a half ago, the crisis in desert/canada story arcs were the beginning zones. You chose which one to go to and played that. you arent really doing anything wrong.

That's good to know. And with supporting data from the wiki I've realized that if I wanted to do as many missions as I could (which was my original plan when I started playing CO, before I got confused by this current predicament), I'd probably hit level 40 long before I got to Vibora Bay, the top-tier area. But I'm going to do it anyways, because I can. I'll probably have to buy another month of gametime, but I really like this game (it's the only MMO I haven't lost patience in. So far, at least.), so I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Even if you hit Vibora Bay at level 40, a poor build or sheer bad luck can get you killed anyway. And that isn't even considering Thekiel or whatever his name was.

Oh, I know that. Hopefully that's not the case with my character, though... We'll see when I get there, and if I need to I'll buy me a retcon token just to rebuild stuff.

I think I'm going to take a break from CO until I get an income, which honestly shouldn't be long. Still, I don't have the money to support a subscription just yet, and I've gotten too far to make a new character with the free archetypes.

I found out. Beat the Resistance adventure on Elite.

Easy way: run it all on Normal until you reach the sewers, log off for 5 min, switch it to Elite, finish the mission.

I don't think Resistance ends there. You get out of the sewers and end up infiltrating a prison to get a specific individual out - I stopped at that point because a boss was absolutely kicking my ass with little effort.

Flight or teleportation if you want to be plain.
Superspeed if you want to be the fastest on land.
Jumping if you want to be flashy.
Acrobatics if you want to be exotic or you want level 2 superspeed and level 2 jumping combined.

Or Jetboots if you want to be kickass, though it is technically a paid power.

Though I am torn on one issue. I've got my second travel power coming up next level, and I am trying to decide between Acrobatics or Swinging. Swinging is just incredibly fun, but acrobatics is more practical.
