your { } should be aligned so that with is in the middle of them

i'm ashamed to say i don't know what they are called. they're not brackets [], and they're not parentheses ()

and there should be a bit more space around the BIG

and there's no need to kern LETTERS so extremely, i don't think it looks good to be taken pretty much right to the edge of the paper

I've heard them called curly brackets, squiggly brackets, and braces.

Curly brackets – also called braces (US) or squiggly brackets (UK, informally)

I agree with all the stuff you said

but I always thought kerning was when referring to spacing between a pair of letters specifically, whereas tracking was referring to the spacing between all the letters in the word, no?

Kerning is for the space between characters, some characters have more kerning than others in order to glide further into the word to make them more readable. K for example have those long lines going down and needs to be tucked further into the following letter to make it seem like it's placed as close to the letter as every other letter.

Tracking is an identical amount of space between all letters.

    So yes, that is correct.

sorry mang, even if it was an unintentional rip off...

    http://www.fendi.com/

yours does make more sense, since the 2/to is part of the name, but yeah
    sorry!
Don't worry about it, as I was doing it I was thinking "man this is generic, I'm sure tons of people have done this." If it was for a paying client I would have explored other options, but it was just a free logo for some on facepunch.

I'm sure FENDI's logo is similar to others as well. Also, I wouldn't consider it a rip-off, it is a different interpretation and mine has a 2 in the middle for a reason.

Anyways, I never claim to be 100% original :P. When I do stuff for FP requests, I roll it out in like an hour, so not much thought process has gone into it.

So, school task, make a logo for a made up company. Had to chose between specific companies or a specfic word that had to be in the name. I took both and made "kraftatto", a tribal-specialized tattoo company.

These are the three refined sketches that I liked out of 30 I made.

Showed these to my teacher now since we all get a short 15 minute guidance with him. He pushed me for the arm, which I had already settled on anyways, thank God.

Now then, this is how it looks right now.

But the typography. It just doesn't feel quite right. I want something a bit gothic, but not too gothic, it should be clear and stand in contrast to the logo itself, but not so much that it becomes a plain and/or superbold font, because that's too much and loses the personal touch.

As my teacher said which is something I've been thinking too, the text should stand out from the logo symbol, since then it can also be used standalone without text at all. Making the text too similar to the arm will also just make it messy and remove the focus which is the name of the company as well as the logo symbol being an arm in tribal design representing pretty much everything the company stands for. Tattooing human body parts with a specialization in tribal design.

But if you have any suggestions then I will happily listen to those and try it out. But I don't really have any good ideas for doing that myself.

I have also tried having the text in the empty area in the left corner, but it looked pretty shit.

the fist looks a bit unnatural. I think you should tilt it a bit
To the left or the right?

I traced the shape from an anatomical drawing of an arm flexing, so I don't really see it myself.

oh wait I got it nevermind. It should be a bit to the left but now that I was doing the position with my arm I figured that it was the fingers that were bothering me. See, when I close my fist, none of the fingers are in the same level. So the indicator one is higher then the middle one and so on. And also I cross my thumb in front of the indicator and not on the side, but that's another point

It's not bad, here are my thoughts

    1) for the two circles logo, have it so that there's a gap sort of between the rings, suggesting that they are linked

2)Move the tagline down a bit, it's too close to the main text. Also move the icon up a bit.

3)remove the shadow from the tagline, or have it much closer to the text

4)I'd have a different font for the main thing rather than futura I think it is. I think a shorter font would look more posh and wedding like

it looks good though, just keep revising it until it's great

that shadowing on the Leven Films text is very interesting, looks pretty clean. but on the subtitle it just looks unnecessary, try it without the shadowing

So this guy wants me to do a logo for him.
It's so open I have no idea of what to do - could anyone give me a hand and tell me where to start?
Ok,so i have a company called Beyond The Norm.. it's a artistic street line.
What i am looking for is a simple, but unique logo for it..I too am a artist, but for the life of me,can't think of a logo...

I would like the image to be one dimensional, (i will toy with it later to be 3 dimensional, but keep that in mind,)

    WHAT IM LOOKING FOR
    -simple
    -bold/strong
    -unique

Just my first thoughts / doodles. I went with the theme of breaking out of the norm (ie. square) the bottom one (my preference) is an arch letting you see beyond, with a street leading you out into it.

For school (media line) we had to recreate an old newspaper, preferably around 1800-1930. Feel free to nitpick, as I want to get better.

I know that the text is too bright (you can't possibly have that black ink for such an old newspaper) and that A4 paper wasn't standard at that time (but we had to work in it so couldn't do anything about that).

Was the assignment to recreate an old newspaper as it would look like today, or as it would have looked when it rolled off the press. Because that's a huge difference.

Sounds like you need to learn the philosophy, I'm thinking you are probably decent with the technical aspect. You should do some reading of books, but possibly more helpful is case studies / process articles. David Pache is a branding guy I respect. http://www.helveticbrands.ch/ is his website, if you browse through some of his logos he gives short descriptions and occasionally will have a link to a picture showing his process. That is one starting point. Another place could be www.behance.net. Quite often in the branding section, people post their process shots / intentions. One other source I'm coming to appreciate is works of architecture, often buildings have a lot of symbolism / intention within them that is more on the abstract side. This is an example: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Dimit...process/329015

Pretty much, learn by example / reading. Not that I'm a master, far from it, but that's what I have done.

I don't know how you will be printing this, but you should cut the background complexity (lots of shades of a color) if you want to cut down printing costs.
Otherwise I like it, but to me doesn't symbolize anything regarding those types of design.
