AK'z was just cracking a joke, did you actually take him seriously?
I replied to his sarcasm with my own if you didn't catch that.

And I don't think he is joking, considering that he disagreed with killerteacup.

    Ummagumma live CD songs:

    * Astronomy Domine
    * Saucerful of Secrets
    * Careful With That Axe, Eugene
    * Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Not in that order but you get the idea. They're all really long, longer than the originals I think
    Brutal, cheers

Just gonna say that On the Run, Any Colour You Like, Great Gig in the Sky are all very prog in the way that they feel and in the context of the album, despite the fact that they don't change time signatures because pink floyd songs rarely do.

Fair enough with Great Gig In The Sky and Any Colour You Like, they're both definitely prog rock. Albeit not "very" as compared to something like Time imo.

But On The Run, is electronic music.

Is it all that uncommon in their songs to change time signature?

Money changes time signature, as does Welcome To The Machine:

This song is yet another Pink Floyd song with unconventional time signatures. The intro of the song is done in 3/4 time signature, that changes to 4/4 in the first verse. Even there, the chord change for the line starting with "so, welcome to the machine... " is done at 2/4, not 4/4. The second verse keeps the regular 4/4 time signature.
    Code:
    ╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦
    ╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩
    ╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦
    ╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩
    ╩╦╩╔╩╦╩PINK╩╦╩╦╩╦
    ╦╩╦╩╦╩FLOYD╩╦╩╦╩
    ╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦╩╦

It's fair to say that they weren't obvious in the progressive aspect.

What prog did was challenge music structures and enhance them with styles from outside the norm at the time.

Pink Floyd didn't concentrate a whole lot on that aspect, just kept with the mood and atmosphere.

That is until Animals and Wall.

So I'm planning on listening to Piper sometime today. After this I need Relics and More. I think I listened to The Final Cut but I can't remember all that well. I've been listening to too much Zappa for me to remember anything else.

    Quick question:

Every time I hear Echoes, and the part beginning with the line "Strangers passing in the street, by chance do separate glances meet", I imagine such a scene occurring in an Industrial Revolution-era London. Like the knd you see in Sherlock Holmes.

I think this is an oddity and I realize that everyone has a different experience, but does anyone else do this?

So just now I started listening to The wall for the first time and it was really wierd because I could swear I'd heard the first song (in the flesh?) before, just different.
It plagued me all the way through and I could not think why because I was SURE I'd never heard the song before, at least not performed by pink floyd so I started thinking and realized Dream Theater made a cover of it on their album A change of seasons. I've been listening to Pink Floyd for years and not realizing it.
    Mind blown.

My mother played Shine On You Crazy Diamond when I was a little bitty kid. I didn't know what it was at the time.

Some time later I am discovering Pink Floyd. I still don't recognize the song, have not heard it since Mom played it. I go on Wikipedia, find a 30 second sample of a song called Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I remember thinking it had a long name.

The sample was of the four note guitar theme.

I shat myself with nostalgia and sudden realization.

For some reason, I have this distinct memory of going with my dad to Blockbuster Video (back when movie rentals was a thriving business) when I was about 5 or 6 and I saw an interesting-looking vhs cover of the movie up for rent. So I grabbed it and brought it up to my dad, and he said "no, no way. That's not for kids."

It was Pink Floyd's The Wall and it would be much much later until I would actually discover their music. At that point, I didn't even know what the hell the Floyd was or what The Wall was about. The cover just caught my eye. I can only imagine what would've happened if my dad had rented that for me to watch at that age.

    Edited:

I dunno, does this look like something a normal 5-6 year old would be interested in?

Undoubtably the most beautiful piano piece ever composed by Richard.
