Could I get a quick vote up to check this thread's consensus?

    - Amon is completely honest about everything and is mostly a well-intentioned extremist.
    - Amon might be inventing some things like a sob story to convince people for example, but could still be considered an anti-villain.
    - Amon is a complete villain and his real plan might be something like conquering the city with his personal army or controlling who can bend and who can't by keeping the reversal of his technique secret.

Also what's this thread's take on energybending, if anybody thought about it thrice?
Is it something that could both take and give bending powers? Could it be applied to non-benders in that case? It is also referred to as bending "life energy" after all if I recall correctly, which is something everyone should possess, no? Also, should Amon be able to energybend, how could he have learned it? How probable is it that knowledge about it spread like knowledge about lightning and metal bending did, considering both the potential abuse by citizens and potential necessity of learning it for the Avatar? If it's more likely it was kept a secret which was hidden somewhere or by someone, any good guesses where or by whom it was hidden/guarded? Would an evolved form of an organization from the original series qualify for that job?
Also since most of the above is pure speculation, which of these scenarios would you really not want to occur because it would conflict with the direction you'd like the narrative to develop into?
Amon can control energy bending, so he can ultimately keep benders under his control. I can GUARANTEE he doesn't eradicate all benders, just the ones who don't choose to submit to him. Calling it right now, his plan is to take over Republic City.

I completely agree, I have a mixed feeling about Amon being the main antagonist though

Wild and crazy theory here, but: When Aang died, two people were born with the abilities of the Avatar, one being Korra and the other being Amon. While Korra was able to master fire, water and earthbending at a young age, she was unable to Airbend which requires some form of spirituality. Amon was able to somehow access the spirit which allowed him to master energybending, which allowed him to take away a bender's bending away permanently. This explains why Korra has trouble connecting spiritually while bending.

tl;dr: Amon and Korra were both born with the abilities of an avatar, Amon born with the ability of energybending and connection with the spirit world, while Korra was born with the physical side of bending

im still not buying the whole energy bending thing. Aang and Amon did two totally different pressure points, done obvious enough that anyone who saw the old avatar can tell. Korra is going to learn Airbending, Aang sucked at Earthbending and couldnt do it for some time, plus Korra is showing real improvement after the bending battle. It is true how she is very headstrong and aggressive and has totally ignored the spiritual side, but at the same time she doesnt really have a guru or monks like Aang did. Since we were primed by Aang's story, we think the spiritual side should be the first thing the Avatar masters, which may not be the case. Aang grew up a monk, being spiritual came easy to him, but maybe for other avatars its not as easy.

I still doubt that it's energy bending, honestly. Here are the facts:

    1. When the lionturtle taught Aang to energybend, he hit two pressure points. This restored Aang's ability to go into the avatar state (iirc he was still able to bend before that?) and took away Ozai's firebending ability.

    2. Ty Lee learned chi blocking, which temporarily blocks someone's ability to bend. It wears off over time, but from what we've seen in TOK and TLA, it takes a significant amount of time depending on the skill of the blocker: Ty Lee was able to suppress the Earthbenders during the siege of Ba Sing Sae (episode: the drill) for a significant amount of time. Long enough for them to be recieving medical care for it. By contrast, the Equalist that blocked Korra and Mako only blocked them for like...what, fifteen minutes?

    3. Amon claims to have mastered energy bending, or at least the ability to completely remove someone's ability to bend...yet we never see the prolonged effects of it. He smacks them in the face, they can't bend, he kicks their ass, next person. That's 30 seconds at the most, far far shorter than "forever".

    4. Firebender fucked up his parents and also his face? Bullshit. He's just someone with a grudge who's smart enough to figure out how to manipulate the system. Calling it now.

    4 may have been speculation.

It was actually when Ozai pushed Aang into that rock which hit the damaged spot caused by Azula and reactivated the Avatar state. The Lion Turtle hit two pressure points only to share his knowledge of energybending instantly.

I think it's one of the few cartoons with an actual plot, not just a once an episode problem. But that's just scratching the surface.

What if it's all a trap where Amon really wants the powers of the avatar and knows how to energy bend through mastering all the points in the body, but knows either a bender or only the avatar can have that ability to activate the transfer of power. So he'll do what he can to make her believe that the only way to stop him is to energybend and with that overcome her and gain the avatar powers.
    Far fetched I know.

    Edited:

You know, the more I think about it, the more Zuko/Katara makes far more sense than Katara/Aang.

That's what they say on the nick.com game Welcome to Republic City. They say Zuko is still alive, although retired from his position as Fire Lord, passing it down to his daughter. He is now an unofficial ambassador trying to solve peace around the world.

I wouldn't be surprised, since they've only got 26 episodes to work with, all of which have been written and animated.

EDIT: This is interesting... Apparently, Aang and Zuko had a bit of a falling out over the Harmony Restoration Movement, which was the withdrawal of Fire Nation citizens from Earth Kingdom Territory and disbanding of the Fire Nation Colonies. Zuko learned that one colony, Yu Dao, had become tightly intertwined with the Earth Kingdom citizens there, and they had even intermarried. Zuko saw that removing the Fire Nation citizens from the colony would ruin their way of life, and began to oppose Aang's Harmony Restoration Movement. Aang reluctantly entered into talks with the Earth King to change the guidelines behind his plan.

Looks like he wasn't as perfect as we would like to think. Also, I advise you all to play the little click-through game on the website.

EDIT: Satomobiles, produced by the Future Factory, have a lower-cost alternative: The Cabbage Car. Yeah... Cabbage Merchant got rich after people stopped breaking his stands. Founded Cabbage Corp.

    Also...
