I recently got back into modeling after my mom put my dad's half finished Ferrari F2001 in my room, since he hadn't touched in months.
So I finished it (all be it with a few missing bits and decals unfortunately)
After I finished this I realized I wanted my own to do from start to finish, so we popped down to a local hobby shop, and they had this. (98 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Rally Car)
Then I realized that I was getting addicted to it.
So I bought a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, and a Nissan Skyline R33.
The Evo was just finished yesterday:
And the Skyline is in production:
After I bought these I guess my dad realized he wanted to get back into as well, so he bought this as a project for the both of us. (Lotus Type 78 Formula 1 Car)
Also my workstation (currently clean because I moved it) and a group shot of my 3 completed models.

I have a bunch I've built and I'd take pictures of them if they weren't boxed up however I am working on a GMC Syclone right now so I suppose I could take some pictures of that at some point

So my brother slipped on water and dropped both of my ship models while we were moving out of the dorms :C
All of the little life-rafts on my USS Missouri floated away and the masts broke off :C

Cool Bulldog. I have a 1/16 scale one thats broken. Gearbox stripped out :/
So I placed an order for a Paasche H AB and Air Regulator yesterday. Will be here saturday. I picked up one of these;
Really excited, trying to take my time on this one. Bought clear and gloss coat, and have weathering supplies on hand. Also a proper hobby knife and nice brushes

I just finished my first model! It's a shame the StuG III didn't know that I was going to be constructing it....
Base coat of paint complete, I ruined it all!

Thats wayyyy better than my first model! That looks great. Have you considered weathering an d gloss/dull coating it? That might help. Airbrushing is also a great way to improve your models

I don't think I would ever have the patience to scratchbuild something, even to a simple level. Kudos to you.
Also, I got myself a Stug III Ausf G. , IS-3, and F-117 to work on after I finish my exams. I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I'm done them.
I'm probably going to weather it after my exams so for now I'll let it sit all pretty. If I know how to gloss/dull coat something I might very well consider it. I might consider getting an airbrush if I complete a few more models and stick with the craft.
At what point of assembling the model would you guys begin painting? I'm currently thinking of painting a nice camouflage pattern onto my new Stug III but I'm sure it will be a hassle if I try to paint it on after I assemble it completely.

what does "thin your paint" means? i don't do scale model painting or anything, i was just wondering because i like this thread and people say this quite often.

You thin your paints so they aren't so thick. So they don't just cover up all the details, makes it looks smoother. You thin different kinds of paint with different things, like water or actual paint thinner.

I hate to bump this week old thread, but I need advice for painting.
I cannot post pictures (I cannot find my camera) but needless to say my paint jobs aren't that good. The big problem is that the troops don't look "weathered" I don't know how to paint dirt and they are pretty much just solid colors painted over the uniform.
They are WWI 1:72 scale figures. Help and tips is appreciated.

I also have literally two full shelves of models I need to start/finish. Many of which are rare and extra badass.

What I would do is I would find some handheld vice grips in the garage and gently squeeze the two pieces together and leave it be for a couple of hours.
Depending on how big your piece is, though.
