God, these riots are a joke. I especially dislike it when people compare them to the riots in the Middle East. Big difference- They were rioting because they were being oppressed and had little freedom. We're rioting because student tuition fees are high and there's lots of taxes. First-world problems much?
    That's not why "we're" rioting.

Megafanx13 and thisispain, why are you both so dense? My head hurts from reading your comments.

People are saying there was more black people involved in the riots. That a fucking fact. Jeez.

It's not in a racist way either.

It's not racism, it's a fact that needs to be addressed. If one ethnicity is causing crime then something, somewhere is wrong.

Oh, but didn't you know, saying anything bad about minorities is racist!

"Racism" today is total bullshit, everybody thinks everything is too racist, even I think its bullshit and I'm a minority myself.

This is the problem, if anyone says anything about a minority it makes them a bigot, which is making things like this hard to tackle.

Dunno about the UK, but in my country they shoot rioters with rubber bullets (which hurt a fuckton, by the way). This way the riot ends within the hour.

Here, this is how we deal with riots:

So they've started evicting people convicted of looting if they live in council houses.

Bearing in mind, if theres a mother, daughter and a son living in the same flat, and the son was the only one convicted of looting all are evicted. Theres also talk of them losing their benefit payments.

Thus the poor get poorer and homeless to boot.

And I know i'm late on this but I've heard everyone talking about the comparisons of the Arab Spring and the August Riots. Use of technology in the Arab Spring as a whole was very sparse and infact it was used as a tool by the regimes for intelligence.

What would this "non-military 'national service' for ALL 16-year-olds" involve? I'm 20 now so it won't really affect me, but I'm wondering exactly what it's going to be all about. Sounds like a load of shit to be honest.

'It takes sixteen year-olds from different backgrounds and gets them to work together,' he said.

'They work in their communities, whether that’s coaching children to play football, visiting old people at the hospital or offering a bike repair service to the community.'

He insisted it would instill 'old-fashioned' values of duty and decency which would help to solve the problem of 'angry young people'.
Community service for everyone pretty much. Maybe it will solve problems, but when I was 16 (and if I had to do it now too) I wouldn't have cared about it and would have put in the least amount of effort to get through it without causing a problem for myself.

Rubber bullets aren't used in the UK unless there is a serious threat to life apparently. I assume its something to do with the very bad experiences with rubber / plastic bullets in Northern Ireland where people have ended up dead.

    Edited:

Also as for this community "national service" stuff, Cameron was pushing for it when he first got elected but no one liked the idea, with it being optional.
It seems that he is just using the riots as an excuse to push for it, maybe it will make a difference only time would tell to be honest.

I still want to see how this will pan out, im not just saying this is a good idea because im older than 16,
im saying it because i don't want to go out of my house at night and get mugged, this might help keep those kinds of crime down...

I'd rather have the compulsory age of education extended. What about the people who actually want to carry on with school, or maybe start an apprenticeship.

Plus I like how you ignore the part where he says he's going to take away the Human Rights Act, replacing it with something that nobody knows anything about.

That should be looked at and discussed completely separately from the other bit to be honest. It does sound like Cameron has just said a load of things at the same time so people do ignore certain bits.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it Cameron who suggested withdrawing from the EU human rights laws?

That's what we need, some discipline and morals to these kids because their parents aren't providing them. Although I think a Military based National Service would be needed to do this. Some of the other Platoons in my Company in the Army Cadets are in the shitholes of Birmingham.Yet with the military style discipline none of them are full on shit heads causing trouble with the law, and there is virtually no aggressiveness between cadets.

Most of the government's reaction to the riots have been rushed.

    PEOPLE WANT THEM EVICTED.

Er yeah ok we better evict them.

    TAKE AWAY THEIR BENEFITS.

Oh ok yeah lets do that to.

They were talking about it on BBC radio 2 earlier. Virtually every political commentator says that the government haven't thought this through enough.

So you evict a family of 4 which had 1 member join in the riots, despite the fact the council have a duty to keep families off the street.

Their only option is to move to another county and apply for the housing list there, even then it'll be a while on the streets before they get anywhere.

I still view the police as doing their job to keep the nation safe. Just because the violence is over it doesn't mean "Oh the threat to myself is gone now, better go and insult the police until I need them again."
