    Background History

The 205th Armory T91 assault rifle is the latest operational combat rifle of the Taiwanese Army. The T91 is a gas-operated short-stroke piston rifle similar in operation to the HK416. It feeds from NATO STANAG 5.56 magazines, and can accept a variety of optical accessories.

The front end of the T91 is similar in appearance to that of the Sig line of Swiss rifles- long, smooth, ergonomic. Because of its inability to mount RIS handguards, and the lack of a delta ring in the rifle, the T91's range of forward mounted accessories is limited. There is, however, a small RIS portion with just four rails mounted underneath the gas block. This system is simply meant to mount bipods and other stability enhancing attachments (I have yet to test if a Magpul AFG can be used here).

    The Airsoft Rifle

The SRC T91 is the only AEG T91 available on the Western market. The only other alternative is the Open Bolt Gas Blowback rifle from WE. The WE T91 is even more difficult to find in North America, so I opted for the SRC instead.

Airsplat carried the SRC T91 at $179.99 (which was a bargain already... most other retailers that carried it marked it at $200-250), and on August 7th, 2011, I discovered that it was on sale for $99.99. I jumped at the opportunity, and I ordered the rifle on August 8th. After a mere three days of waiting, UPS delivered it to my house at around 7 PM during one of my afternoon sessions of ARMA II.

When I first took it out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the weight. The SRC weighs in at around 9.5 lbs, which is even heavier than the Classic Army SCAR-L. The weapon comes with a 300 round high capacity magazine, and an unjamming rod. The external build quality on the rifle's body is great, and holds up to that of other SRC weapons, notably their G36 series. I did notice some ejector pin marks on the side of the handguard, which is an issue for plastic modeling; not as much for airsoft. The T91's stock is also a bit plastic-y, and I question its reliablity. When I shook the rifle to test its sturdiness, the stock had some notable wobble. Can't really complain though, I used a coupon on this weapon so all it cost me was $90.00.

The receiver markings are in Traditional Chinese, and read "5.56 millimeter T91 assault rifle/made in Taiwan." Something I noticed on the receiver was the lack of a forward assist, which is a characteristic feature of the T91. The weapon does have a funtioning charging handle, which is used to spring open the dust cover to expose the hopup. The bolt catch is not functional. The carry-handle is removable, and has an adjustment knob for windage, but not for elevation. Another interesting feature is that the gas tube gan be removed, just like the real thing.

The SRC T91 uses a nunchuck-style battery, which I didn't have. But they shouldn't be hard to find, nor should they be very expensive. So I tested it using a 9.6v stick battery. Initially, the weapon fired a little low, but a quick turn of the hop-up dial quickly fixed that issue.

It fired very accurately, at 20 yards. I tested the T91 on a target drawn on a piece of copy paper hanging on a tree, and it performed satisfactorily, hitting a smaller-than-man-sized target consistently. On fully-automatic, the rate of fire was very high, probably due to the "ultra high torque motor" that came stock with the gun. The FPS, when tested using poor man's chrono, was in the 330-350 range. I have yet to test it with an actual chronograph.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this weapon. $90.00 for a solid, full metal AEG with good accuracy is a steal. I would highly reccomend the SRC T91 for anyone looking to buy an Armalite that doesn't want an M4 or M16.

    Eye Candy:

Does this have a V2 gearbox? The Guarder T65 was notorious for having a bizarre separate upper gearbox similar to the V4 (TM PSG-1), and it had proprietary gears which were made of plastic and would render the entire gun dead if they stripped.

Yep, it's a V2. And the gears are metal.

Languages are really interesting. They say you don't really know a language until you start to think in it instead of translating it in your head

also since i work in a japanese place, when i get chinese customers, i greet them in chinese and they shut the fuck up because they weren't expecting a mandarin speaking person and plus they're usually talking about very personal things

Doesn't matter Taiwanese pride :brofist:, according my my dad his side of the family was native to Taiwan. I love ease dropping when people speak Mandarin or Cantonese, I get to hear all the gossip and racist things they say, though it backfires when I speak it sometimes like I was talking to my mom about a white guy and the white guy speaks mandarin to us and we instantly switch to cantonese to throw him off. There is too much crossbreeding so barely anyone is full Chinese or Japanese in America.
