    I'm using this keyboard:

I've had no problems for years. I recently just started using it again and I'm finding that it doesn't stay "on" anymore (at least not for long at all). I can tell this because the Num Lock key (light) will suddenly go off and none of the keys will work. Do I need to update drivers? I've tried looking but everyone seems to be saying that I need the driver disc from apple. (Which I don't have).

The computer that I'm using it for is running Windows XP, if that makes a difference?

I'm pretty sure Apple keyboards are plug n play, you don't really need any drivers(as are most keyboards). It sounds more like the USB cord/plug got damaged. I had the same issue with a few of my mice and my old Microsoft keyboard, they would sporadically stop working.

I booted in safe mode and it works perfectly...

I uninstalled the device from device manager and reinstalled it. Booting again now in normal mode.

Using the "newer" version now (white, usb ports are on the back next to the cable) and I can say it sucks. Maybe it would be ok if you used Mac OS, though.

I liked the mac keyboards with a "break" button. Unfortunately mine is broken so the keyboard still works.
