Also, it looks like either I'm blissfully unaware of how things are done on the Portal 2 engine, or modding is disabled in the beta. I don't even think hud_reloadscheme does anything anymore. Sneaky buggers.

Haha, that sounds like a- are you kidding me. They've given out tons of keys, I highly doubt they'd be willing to give a free game to 5000+ people as soon as it comes out.

There are actually lots of maps avaliable now compared to the start of the beta: Train, Dust 1/2, Nuke, Inferno.

I don't know what Aman is talking about though, we're testing Train online right now but can play any of the maps I just mentioned.

Shame I didn't apply to the beta earlier. But, hows the beta for those who have it? Is it fun? Do you think a person like me, that played a lot of 1.6 and CSS (and enjoyed both equally), would like it?

This beta has some weird stuff from, of all things, the Half Life 2 beta (or from that era anyway) in it.

There's cfg files to handle playing the (non-existant) E3 demos, and two demo files (bump3 and devtest) which no longer work (though viewing them in notepad shows references to maps and files from the HL2 beta like the fire extingusher and bullsquid)

Valve's development SVN must be a hellish nightmare from which no light escapes.
