For the past few days now I've been having an argument with some mates of mind about whether Running is better than walking at burning fat

Personally I'm leaning towards the whole, walking miles will burn fat while running miles burns a bit of fat but mainly builds muscle and improves cardio significantly...

I could Google this shit but...you guys ARE the experts..

    Cheers

Sprinting can build muscle, general running does not. Commonly it is though that running a mile uses as many calories as walking it. This isn't true, because the faster you run the closer you get to the lactic acid threshold (when lactic acid builds up faster than it is taken away) and the bigger % of energy production is anaerobic. Anaerobic is much much more inefficient than aerobic (around 15 times more usable ATP molecules per gram of glucose.) Though you need a quite high intensity and most people cannot run for very long on that high intensity (they probably could but lack the mental strength because it gets quite painful in the long run).

So would running at lactate threshold burn the most? Or would it burn more to sprint (not including calories used for muscle growth)?

Yeeeeah... Have you ever looked at a runners body, not exactly stacked.
In fact I know the guy who's going for the state record in the mile in track and field this year, I swear once I could see his heart beating in his chest...
