I am building a cheap rig for my friend and the price is about at $450.
His only request about the computer is that it runs minecraft at a playable level. This needs to be as cheap as possible, so I picked a 520 as his GPU. Am I over shooting on the card? If so what cheaper card would you recommend
Do without the GPU and get a h61 motherboard with a i3 2125 or 2105, if he needs a GPU later, he could upgrade to one without waste. I'd also get a PSU that's at least capable of running a 5770, maybe those cheap cooler master 430 watt PSU.

Hey guys, my PCI-E Wireless Adapter is being really finicky after one of the antannae came off, so I "borrowed" my sister's D-Link Wireless Adapter (It's a surprisingly good one) and it's a USB one that comes with a single-slot USB Hub with cord.

Would I see any speed differences between plugging it directly into the computer and plugging it into the hub?

It's possible (but unlikely) for it to be bottlenecked by the HUB because all the bandwidth is shared between all the attached devices.

Alright guys so I fucked up bad. I got a new hard drive and I have been trying to make it my boot drive by cloning my old hard drive to my new hard drive. I never altered the old hard drive (99.9% sure of this). I was never able to clone and then add unallocated space to the partition, and i spent hours on it so I just said fuck it, so I put the new hard drive (wiped) into a new comp I am building.

Here is the issue now. My old comp won't start up unless both hard drives are present. With the old hard drive it just won't start up. With the new hard drive it says I am missing windows files. this is odd because the new hard drive is wiped clean. Not even a partition, all unallocated space. Windows will only start up if I have both hard drives connected to my comp, and even then I can't even show the second drive in Disk management OR My computer.

    I really need help. Appreciated.
What exactly happens when you boot only with the old drive?

Perhaps, your boot records got mixed up, or something.
If so, you could probably repair the old HD by using the Windows 7 install disk (assuming you are using W7).
Start up using the Windows 7 DVD, pick "Repair your computer", then "Startup Repair".

Also, I'm pretty sure that an empty drive still should show up in Disk Management.

I'd love to have a laptop as my own PC, until I move with my dad and then still use it as a laptop, so, I'd love a decent GPU, processor speed, and a good amount of USB Ports. Any thoughts?

People will whine, but that's it.

The PSU will run cooler and maybe more efficienty depending on the unit. There is no real downside. The System will only draw what it needs.

I'm planning to buy a Mini-ITX setup desktop, mainly for graphism stuff (Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Painter, SAI, ...) with occasional gaming if possible (something that could run old games fine on 1920x1080 resolution like TF2, Killing Floor, L4D). My budget shouldn't go above 400€

Case: Lian Li PC-Q09F (with 150W power supply included)
Processor: Intel Pentium G620 or AMD A6 3500 APU (?)
Mobo: Zotac H61-ITX (for Intel setup) / Zotac A75-ITX (for AMD setup)
    RAM: Kingston HyperX 8 Go (2x 4Go) DDR3 1600 MHz
SSD: Samsung Serie 830 (64 or 128 Go)

I don't know if AMD or Intel is better for this setup.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Got this external Hard-Drive, but I was wandering, if I re-format it will it cease to be a Toshiba HD and just become a generic HD? And what is the proper process of formatting a HD to work on a MAC?

I only ask because it is in the wrong format to be used on a MAC and it belongs to someone else and it might bug them thinking I have done something wrong.

Oh, okay. What's your price range, and what do you need more: power or portability? You can get one of those Alienware laptops, but they kind of go against the entire point of a laptop.

Piriform's Recuva works well. Be aware that deleted files are written over in no time. I remember I deleted a folder while messing around with a command line tool once and within 10 minutes a lot of the files were partially written over.

Will the IdeaPad Z575 laptops drop the prices a bit after the ivy bridge ones come out? I've been thinking about getting this one if the price drops a bit, if it's any better than the amd one. Actually which of those two are better anyway? I'm pretty sure the intel one is a bit better, but then again it's $150 more.

Also, if anyone owns the intel one, does it look as purple as it looks in the pictures? I mean seriously, look at this girly thing.

The purple on it is more subtle, it just looks crazier cause of the white photography box its in.

Also fuck AMD until they release a new generation of CPUs that aren't terrible

not for a casual listener. Dint bother unless you're employed in music production or have the speakers to back it up (you don't unless you've got studio monitors)

only slightly, but it does take the sound processing load off of your cpu so it helps performance a tiny bit.
