    Alright I have the standard apache config on my server but that doesn't seem quite effective.

    It is currently running on a 384/768Mb VPS and I wanted to know which settings (StartServers, SpareThreads, ThreadLimit, ThreadsPerChild, MaxClients, etc..) would be the best.
    The site I'm talking about is http://luacraft.com which hosts a Forum, Wiki and some filedownloads.
    If needed I could upgrade the VPS. I hope anyone can lighten me up on this!

    Trying to figure out how to actually install Ruby on Rails so that I can *start* messing with it. Did the 20 minute 'learn Ruby' tutorial on the site, the coding part of it seems do-able. But I have no idea to put all these files I downloaded, where to install it to if I'm trying to use it on my local WAMP server, where to put .rb files I make so that they run.

    Anyone have a link to a useful tutorial for just setting the damn thing up?

    Rails doesn't work the same way PHP does. In Rails, your code all runs as part of one cohesive application that is started up and runs for a long time, rather than as a bunch of loose scripts.

    A good place to start with Rails are the Rails Guides or with Rails for Zombies.

    Also, you probably want to setup a Linux VM if you're keen on doing Rails development. Ruby on Windows is kind of sketchy.

    yeah it is a framework

    Edited:

    although rails does include ActiveSupport as part of it which does extend some of the core classes in ruby so you can do things like:

    Code:
    >> 1.hour.to_i
    => 3600

    >> 1.month.ago
    => Wed, 04 Jan 2012 16:27:05 UTC +00:00

    >> 20.megabytes
    => 20971520

    >> "".blank?
    => true

    >> "person".pluralize
    => "people"

    >> "rails_is_cool".humanize
    => "Rails is cool"

    >> 3.ordinalize
    => "3rd"

    I fucked up stylesheets for my users and now things won't update for them without manual cache purging and it looks like shit.
    Any good way to force a reset of their cache?

    Rename the stylesheet or use a query string (doesn't cache properly in some (old?) browsers).

    Trying to decide between storing settings in the database versus serializing them in a YAML file or something. The latter might be faster but I could always do database caching.

    Might be one of those "no one will ever use it enough for you to notice" problems.

    Ill try that query string idea...

    I kinda remember a somewhat supported meta tag to clear cache but I can't remember/find it.

    So we have a 12.6 MB .sql DB for our myBB forum
    And well we are going with the advice given earlier and are going to switch to fluxBB

    so we need to convert the database but no conversion software exists which means we need to create a macro to do this that can handle semi-complex expressions to format this in any whichway we need to...

    Suggestions?

    So I'm going to buy another domain and I noticed name cheap is pretty well, cheap. At $11 for a .net domain I'm pretty sure I'll go with them. Has anyone been with them before? I've heard good things about them but you can never be too sure.

    Haven't had a problem yet. They also have free WHOIS( it was a coupon I used months ago so maybe they took it down) coupon code: FREEWHOIS or something.

    EDIT:

    Plus, they make funny videos:

    Can someone help me understand why whitespaces affect the triple click?

    For example:
    I have this
    <html>
    	<head>
    		<style>
    			li
    			{
    				display: inline-block;
    				border-color: #ABABAB;
    				border-style: solid;
    				border-width: 1px;
    				padding: 3px;
    				margin: 5px;
    			}
    		</style>
    	</head>
    	<body>
    		<div>
    			<ul>
    				<li>
    					<span>-test-</span>
    				</li>
    				<li>
    					<span>-test-</span>
    				</li>
    				<li>
    					<span>-test-</span>
    				</li>
    				<li>
    					<span>-test-</span>
    				</li>
    				<li>
    					<span>-test-</span>
    				</li>
    			</ul>
    		</div>
    	</body>
    </html>

    Now, if you run that code and try to triple click the first list item, it will select all of them.

    But if you run this:
    <html><head><style>li{display:inline-block;border-color:#ABABAB;border-style:solid;border-width:1px;padding:3px;margin:5px;}</style></head><body><div><ul><li><span>-test-</span></li><li><span>-test-</span></li><li><span>-test-</span></li><li><span>-test-</span></li><li><span>-test-</span></li></ul></div></body></html>

    then try to triple click the first list item, it will just select the first list item.

    Ok guys, I need some advice on what to do, basically I was joining random servers, and saw one community didn't have a loadingurl, I offered to help them out made a loadingurl, motd, etc and naturally hosted them on my server so the content couldn't be stolen. Apparently not, they just downloaded it, removed my little copyright nametag in the corner and then hosted it on their website & banned me from their server, I'm not fussed about the server, but having my work ripped off like that is a little disheartening, what would you guys do in this situation, just leave it?, because I don't really think there's anything I can do and what's the best way to prevent stuff like this happening, is there anyway to disable the ability to download, I doubt it thought since they can just copy paste the source.

    Find out who their host is, and file a claim with them, provide enough evidence that you made the content (show them your version on your host, any source files you may have, and some details on what happened).

    Not really, and that would be a very time consuming and worthless endeavor. Focus on creating content that would be worth stealing, license it according to your intentions, and don't deal with random internet assholes again.

    Yeah I suppose so. Anyway, thanks for all your help guys. It's appreciated.

    Any you guys know some decent resources that I could use to make this sort of contract, I'm 15 so obviously not a lawyer of any kind. There's got to be something that provides some basic outlines and then allows me to edit it and expand upon. As when I did a work experience at a graphic design company I noticed they had a contract so I presume web dev would be the same?
