So everyone seems to love Mercs more than Powertechs and recommends them most of the time. What's the situation on Powertechs atm that makes them so bad/not efficient enough? I'd love to know if there is actually a reason or if people just don't prefer them. Haven't seen that many Powertechs/Vanguards around to know for myself.

If I remember correctly, you agree to it when you make your account.

I know it's a stupid joke but there are a couple of problems with that.

    1) How can you (referring to "the internet") expect Bioware to know every meme and/or dumb joke.     You cannot

2)Bioware has been policing their forums since launch and have been calling people out for lying and making false accusations.

    3) Companies have to rely on some form of trust when you make an account and give your name, age, gender, etc.. If you give that information and then make a statement that would go against the information that has already been given AND it goes against their user agreement/TOS what else are they to do.

    4) Permanent bans are only permanent if you cannot make a case. If this guy follows instructions and follows through he should get his account unbanned.

Just for the sake of proof that you do agree to this when you make an account.

    X. A Special Note About Children

Many EA online or mobile products and services are intended for general audiences and do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. When an EA online or mobile product or service does collect age information, and users identify themselves as under 13, the product or service will either block such users from providing personal information, or will ensure consent is obtained from parents for the collection, use and sharing of their children's personal information.

Lego, normally I'd agree that forum bans should not effect your game but this is an entirely different issue and more about legal obligations then general trolling/stupidity.

No I completely get that, I've been saying all along he can be unbanned. What I am trying to say is that they made the right choice here.

Until there is proof of his age all EA has to go on is the age that was given when he made the account and the statement he made. So as it stands EA should consider the person behind the account to be 12.

I'm preeeeeetttyyyyyy sure laws like that does not cover Memes.

"Bla bla, insert children protection law here*

*does not apply to online memes"

It's also stupid to assume everyone in Bioware/EA knows about all the fuckretarded memes out there.

I also think the single fact he used such a retarded meme that only a 12 years old would actually use, gives accurate proof that he is 12 or under.

Or that he might aswell be and be treated like one.

A company has to err on the side of caution in these matters. If you say you're 12, they have to take that as fact until you can show evidence to the contrary (fax in photo id, for example)

    > Or he shares the same name as his father
    > Or he used paypal and lied about his age there also
    > Or he etc...

I doubt a forum mod has access to that type of information and it is not his job to vet every post and decision before making an action.

    Here is what probably happened:

    Lonely mod out patrolling the scum of the web which is the forums when all of a sudden he sees a statement sticking out like a sore thumb so he decides to take a closer look. Upon further investigation he notices that a statement was made about ones age and there is no indication of sarcasm or humor. Now this lonely mod has two options;

    1) Continue to investigate issue wasting countless minutes wondering if this is actually a statement or a meme, in which this can be both or

    2) Do his job and ban the user because the statement directly falls under laws and EA TOS putting the responsibility of verifying the true age of the user on the user himself and the customer support team.

With the ban they gave out, they seem to know everything about the stupidity of internet users, I think they know plenty.

Not to mention the fact, as I've said VERY NOT LONG AGO, pretty sure internet memes does not apply to laws and that kind of stuff, seems you forgot to read that fact.

Herp, can't differentiate jokes from being serious.

All you really need to know is what I wrote in my earlier post and that laws and the like does not take memes into account, it was his fault if he decided to write that, meme or not.

Why do you make a point on everything I say except the most important one that explains everything you should know on the current subject?

I wonder if someone on the forums goes on and says "I'm only 1 years old, dont make fun of me" or something, they will ban them.

Knowing that 1 year olds most likely wont be able to write, let alone type that.

I never said following the law was bad. What I said (and what I keep going back to) is that the moderators shouldn't take everything super seriously, AND it is up to the moderator whether they ban or not. And MOST forum mods (with any amount of sense) would know that he was not being serious.

And there is no law stating that children under 13 cannot play T games. Only limit on game ratings is rated M. So any age limit a T game places is not law, it is the makers choice.

And the law also is that children under 13 can register to stuff with parents permission, whether it be through email confirmation or just letting them on in saying they got permission.

Read this, carefully. Read it entirely. Here's a hint, it's in a quote. Sure, might not be a national law, but it's Bioware's TOS in SWTOR and it's the guy's fault for implying he was 12, meme or not.

Memes are stupid as shit, they shouldn't ever circumvent a Law or a TOS and even if the guy in question is 80 years old, I think it's fine he got banned.

If he wants to get unbanned all he has to do is appeal the case, shouldn't be too hard if he's actually above 13.

Ah yes but it would not be breaking the law seeing as the only thing limiting age is the TOS. Meaning that if they left it alone (which they should have because moderators should have common sense and a slight knowledge of internet) the law would not effect anything and the world would continue turning.

A TOS is supposed to be followed, not because no one reads that shit that we can just overlook what's written in their TOS, in the end it remains their decision and they just follow what they already wrote in their own rules which is a good thing.

The fact that they're actually involved in their own community is a good thing, if anything stupid Memes should be bannable, let's just tell them to add that their TOS so that guys like you stop complaining.

The law would be in effect, if it was followed through with is another question.

EA gathers information on it's users, that is a known fact. It is illegal to do so if the person is under the age of 13 and without parental consent. So if someone post "I'm 12 and what is this" and EA does nothing but some lawyer sees this and figures he can turn a buck he might pursue it and if the person is actually 12 he has a case which could cost EA millions.

edit: You know what, fuck it. You clearly do not understand something and I am getting bored of this back and forth which will end with you still being ignorant to the situation and legal obligations.

I'm talking about the SWTOR Forum, why do you bring Facepunch into your argument, I don't even know.

I'll just ignore what you say from now on, if you're so hell bent on believing your own opinion (Which I have nothing against, everyone is entitled to believing in their own opinion).

Last I heard the limit to register was 13 or it didn't let you register.
I am saying that if people on facepunch and other sites (I saw someone use it on 4chan and that requires you to be 18+) And not a single permaban/very long ban was dealt.

But the problem here is that the law is...
    1. Anyone of any age can play games rated T.
    2. Anyone under the age of 13 can register for any site with permission of parents

AND terms of service =/= law. I have heard of some dumbass sues and not a single one was because someone broke TOS and the maker ignored it.
