    No

the FANS thought it was heavily implied to be a joke. The post itself contains no words at all, only the advertisement for Jarate, which doesn't look any different content-wise than the Force a Nature ad.

Taking things out of context. Valve played the straight man with Jarate on April 1st, and the fans assumed it was trolling. Then it turned out to really be a preview of a real item. It was the fans who framed the entire trolling angle, not Valve

i remember that exactly, it was freakin hilarious

me on april first: what the fuck is this shit, piss in a jar? they're joking right?
Sniper vs. Spy: WHAT THE FUCK, I THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE HOLY SHIT... ooh, razorback.

By trolling I don't mean the April Fool's post itself. They trolled by actually releasing it when they full well knew and intended for the fans to think it was a joke and would never happen. There is no other reason. They've never announced a weapon ahead of time like that. You can't possibly think their intentions were merely to preview a weapon and they just happened to do it on April Fool's day. This was planed. They knew what they were doing. They were fucking with us. They were trolling.
Valve had never previously and never would again do an April Fools joke. It was the fans who had assumed such.

And they hint at weapons all the time. The Quick-Fix appeared for months before being added, stats, appearance, everything was known.

Valve doesn't intentionally mislead. They've never done that.

Revealing jarate definitely elicited negative responses and they knew it would.

It's why the Classless update was called the Classless update (besides not being based on a class)

Yeah they hint, they don't post blog posts with full views of the item and say COMING SOON.

why are you defending it, it was clearly intended to be misleading but that's not even a bad thing

But it wasn't misleading. It was a blog post hinting about a future weapon. Only the fans thought it was misleading because of the date it was posted (even if Valve never does April fools)

That's what I meant. Wait, jarate has nothing to do with the Classless Update, it was in Sniper vs Spy

the Classless update was called the Classless update for two reasons. Because it contained no class themed items, and because SPUF had been on a crusade against Valve for months about how TF2 is now classless, and had lost all feelings of decency because we can throw pee at each other.

After setting a new standard for Lack of Class in an FPS with the addition of Jarate (the jar-based Karate), we've raised the bar on lowering the tone even further with the first ever Classless Update!

It's easier to believe valve would unprecedentedly have an April Fool's joke than that they would unprecedentedly preview a new item through blog post before the update it was a part of was even announced and just happened to not notice it was April Fool's day.

They knew very well what them posting something on April 1st would do. It got people talking.

At the time, no one in the community had an idea of what class was going to get the next one after the Scout update came out. The Jarate advertisement was the TF team's way of unofficially announcing which class was coming next (remember that we didn't know that the Spy was going to sneak in until day 3) while at the same time getting the community talking about what could be coming.

Never before that date had they ever previewed an item that far in advance. Medic and Heavy's items were both shown on the day-of. The Flare Gun showed up in Meet the Sniper, which was within close time proximity of the Pyro update. Scout update revealed each item day by day, then had the community vote which order we'd unlock them via achievement. The only thing that they showed off here that wasn't added until a later date was a beta version of PLR_pipeline, which obviously was not finished at the time, so they pushed it back until the next major update.

Jarate is the first instance of an item being foreshadowed that far in advance. The fact that it was so far in advance, without any notice, and posted on April 1st is what got the community talking. The fact that it was on April 1st would have gotten people talking even if it was on a different day, but this allowed for the skeptics to toss their 2 cents in as well. TF2 is advertised by word of mouth alone, getting people talking is how the TF team gets the hype up for incoming updates, as such, the community does most of the work for that (and gets carried away a lot of the time).

It's obvious that HL3 is being worked on, but Valve just isn't announcing anything on it because the anxiety and wait would be even worse, especially since they say they aren't good at long term plans and end up ditching something somewhere down the line and changing everything.

Know what would be fucking insane? If Valve actually did plan to add female class models, with Meet the Medic hinting at it with the Heavy's missing rib.

Not saying it's necessary or that I'd necessarily want to see it happen. Just babbling. Note that I said it would be fucking insane.

Jarate appears in Meet the Sniper as well.

However, there is nothing signifying that either the Sandvich nor Jarate were going to be used, they were just there as props that they later decided would be interesting as items.

A big guy (who is commonly made fun of for being fat) eating a sandwich isn't really that farfetched.
Same goes for a stationary assassin needing to use the bathroom, pissing in a jar isn't some thing that Valve invented.

They already admit that they don't plan items that far in advance, they base things on the community response to it.
