I always get overly optimistic when the end of the week is here and we finally get a new item.
I'm always sitting here hoping it will be a new weapon and not a shifty reskin or a hat/misc, not that I don't like having six bajillion hats but gameplay gets dull fast for me.

People are going to be pissed no matter what they do.

But Cozy Camper is a better item because it's a weapon. New weapons are always better than hats/miscs.

I'd take a weapon over a hat/misc anytime just because it's more accessible. Even if it's not the right one for my playstyle I was able to test it out which freshens up things a little bit.
To get the hat, I need to pay 7.49 or some ridiculously high amount of ingame items.

He might mean aesthetically. But even then there's always a sea of opinions out there. I think the Cozy Camper is a well made item which deserved to get ingame, and was unfortunent to be butchered by valve's re-texture. Though personally as a weapon it's rather useless, because any sniper worth his snuff NEEDS to be able to be agile even while scoped.

I strafe around when I'm unscoped and zoom in just before I shoot. If you're scoped for longer than 2 seconds any sniper worth his snuff should have already killed you, no matter how slow you're moving / not moving while scoped.

Any sniper worth his snuff knows he'll face more than just counter snipers and that the camper does more harm than good.

Okay, there are many snipers worth their snuff. We're done with that. But anyway, my opinion is that you shouldn't stand still as a sniper, ever. Be it scoped or unscoped. So there's where we agree. To be honest, the Cozy Camper may be an innovative concept, but I just don't like the bland way it goes. It literally forces you to camp, which is a hated attitude in like all games.

Y'know, i've been wondering; with all these cosmetics, the hats and miscs, do you think that the next step forward in cosmetic customisation would be character skins, or would that make it harder to judge whether a guy is RED or BLU? Colour-changes outside of different shades of red and blue wouldn't be viable for that reason, but having different textures, like an Engineer wearing a team-coloured shirt that looks like flannel, or the ever-famous Stylish Spy, would that work?

The gifting one can't be gotten without buying either as gifts don't drop. The only way to get a gift is to buy it or get it as a gift, so the chain has to start with someone making a purchase.

The dueler is the only one that is perfectly reasonable to obtain without buying, as dueling tokens drop fairly regularly.

All of those can be traded for, which technically bides them unnaffected by that law, doesn't it?

    Edited:

And unusuals are gotten by unlocking a crate, not by buying an amount of keys.

the gambling aspect is the major portion of that new law.

However, just adding stranges and unusuals to the drop system with a very, very, very minor chance to get them would probably be a loophole, since they would no longer be "luck from purchase only" They could also argue every item in the crate is worth at least 2.50. That would make it okay also.
