sometimes if I'm using the music app, the music volume lowers a bit if I'm going back to desk, sometimes it doesn't. Is there a specific reason for that?
Shouldn't be, just file a bug report.

You'll have to upgrade to the full version (by January, like Baldr said). You can't roll back without having to do a fresh install. If you don't want to take that risk, install to a different partition (dual boot) or install to a VM. Personally, I installed it to a VM using VMWare Player, but that might not work so well if you're testing touch-screen.

I suspect it might be some new forum code that automatically thumbs large images.

So how do you guys feel about this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2...windows-8.aspx

    Edited:

I think it's an interesting move. The regular Windows price would be cheaper as it's Windows price - licensing fees. So Windows is less expensive. If you chose to get the Media pack, it would be about the same as buying Windows as it is now as the price already covers that.

That's understood, whats not is why remove a function and put it in a package you have to purchase to regain it? I get the pricing thing, they are trying to make it more available to people that either don't want to pay a crazy price or just don't have that kinda money for the prior price. $300 something opposed to $550, but if the DVD/Media Center package is not light on the pricetag those who want that full functionality are still paying that large tag there, which is a possibility.

That's why I bitched, and I think they're pulling crap. But that's just my opinion.

I won't really mind them plugging out support for WMP (though I find it a bit redundant), since there's other solutions. If it means a lower price, and simply fewer features in WMP, I won't really care. As long as they don't make DVD playback something you can't do without buying something from them, it's cool.

I'm sure that's the aim here, as there are literally fucking TONS of users out there that don't know a lick about third party media software, and they are the demographic in scope. People like me and you and anyone else posting here itt, won't notice shit because we know whats up when it comes to these things.

The problem is that most users/moms/teachers/ect will purchase a netbook/laptop/etc and expect that they can plug in the device into a TV and just play their home movies/etc by putting the disk in. The average user will be very confused and unless they would need to have some sort of dialog like: "Hey, here's a link to the app store which will let you download an app to do this!"

Of course, but hopefully some people will be aware of it, and help them out. If the price is lower, it's not gonna bother me personally. Still a dick move in some aspects.

I have a feeling they're hoping people think exactly this so that they can go and price Windows 8 the same amount they would've priced it had they not done this, making a few bucks in the process. (Basically passing the price of the h264 license and turning it into a tiny profit)

And then risk losing sales. They already make a profit on it, if they sell it for cheaper, they get more sales and in turn more profits.

If they were to price it the same the whole tech community will call them out on it and end up losing sales.

Also if they lower it people who wouldn't've bought it previously might reconsider. "Hey if it's only $x then what the hell, I'll go ahead and get it."

Look at how well all those discounts, pre-purchase, bundle pack, etc savings did for 7.

You'd think someone you're supposed to trust would do that, but then again look at Sony.
They sold 1 million PS3s in 6 weeks after launch for 600 a pop, so my point here is if people want it enough they're going to buy it no matter the price and Microsoft knows that.

This pricing thing is similar between Ms and Sony, only Microsoft is superior at it.

We're talking about a quasi monopoly here. They'll still make money off every new PC ever made from the point of Windows 8's release and they'll still make plenty of money if they price Windows at the same price they would've before. I would've agreed with you were we not talking about Microsoft and Windows here (and a particularly small amount of money)

Of course they're still going to make profit, but it's not like it's going to be Windows 7 Pro $100, Windows 8 Pro $100 + $50 Media Pack. If they did that, they're completely fucking stupid.

Not to mention MS isn't as bad now as they used to be. Not saying they're great or anything, but they aren't as bad as say the 90's or 00's.

It could turn out that that won't happen but it does still appear that way. Granted they're not as bad as before, they have matured a little. I mean, they did buy Skype for hardly any reason at all..

Ballmer: Welp, we bought Skype today.
Other employee: Why? What have you got planned for it?
Ballmer: I dunno, seemed like a good idea at the time...

Are you completely oblivious to the lawsuit Microsoft is embroiled in with Motorola regarding the H.264 codec? They thought Motorola was allowing it's use freely due to how vast a portion of Internet video uses it; then Moto does a U-turn and sues.
At the end of the day, Win8 with media playback is probably going to cost the same as Windows has usually.
