Well I wasn't exactly expecting anyone to do it on the current X-Ray anyway
Well I wasn't exactly expecting anyone to do it on the current X-Ray anyway
I'd appreciate it if you could provide it.
I think it should be just a slight round darkening at the edges of the screen.
huh, I just actually tried setting the alife switch distance to 1000
kind of cool, actually. Rapes performance a bit but not that bad, I suppose.
(In CoP, mostly vanilla just with Atmosfear 3)
Do you guys think you'd use the Predator shotgun more if it was swapped with the reward for the Chimera Hunt quest in Zaton, so you got the Predator for killing the Zaton Chimera and the SPAS-12 for killing the Ventilation Complex Chimera in Yanov? The Predator's quite a cool weapon, but it's a pity you get it too late in the game for it to be really practical.
Nah, it's fucking worth it. It can pretty much oneshot everything except pseudogiants. Chimeras and bloodsuckers both die from a well-aimed facebuck.
Maybe, but usually I end up using the unique guns for their "sentimental" value. I don't use the SPAS-12 anyway much.
I'd use the hell out of a unique engraved TOZ-34 if it had a unique model like Degty's Commemorative Makarov in IWA.
To me the TOZ-34 represents what a "gun" actually is : A tool that is deadly in the hands of a good user. There's no tacticool attachments, no auto-fire to compensate for inaccuracy, no folding stocks or pistol grips.
Just a simple and beautiful weapon of iron and wood. It makes hunting game in the swamps or forests feel like something because it just feels so right to use an actual hunting shotgun to take down muties and lightly armored foes instead of being like a Bubba that goes hunting with an M4 carbine outfitted with the latest unnecessary tactilollery and drum mags.
SGM had a fancy model for the scoped TOZ-34. I suppose the TOZ has a certain level of class and panache that none of the other guns can really ever achieve.
TFW had scoped TOZ-34's, I think. Those were fun to use.
This is why I always love the start of STALKER, it feels ghetto as fuck - ie sawn-off shotguns, the TOZ, or a silenced Makarov. Later on in the game it gets way more tactic00l, like the LR-300 outfitted with scope/silencer/M203.
That's how it really should feel throughout the whole game in my opinion. Old black market weapons, with high-tech stuff only carried by the richest people in the Zone - mostly mercs I'd imagine.
Yeah, I generally don't like it when people mess too much with the overlay and the zoom on iron sights weapons.
When your eyes focus on distant objects as oppose to close ones, it isn't effectively modeled by depth of field or whatnot. I can move my face closer to the monitor, but that doesn't help because there is a fixed amount of data available from the monitor. The slight zoom on ironsights is representative of you actual shift in focus.
A similar thing happens with gas masks. You shouldn't notice the gas mask because it is at point blank on your face. I don't notice the rim of my sun glasses because I am looking in the distance. My monitor however, is intentionally placed at a distance at which I can easily focus, which makes HUD representations of a mask distracting and hugely inaccurate. At most there should be a very faint rim around the veeeeery edge of the screen and perhaps a very slight tint caused by the visor.
Minimalist huds also bite at me a bit. The HUD is there to serve as a representation of the things that the player character naturally feels. Minimaps which provide indicators as to the general locations of enemies is a stopgap measure to fill in the gap caused by limited ability to accurately represent sound direction. For humans it is trivial to tell when a man 10 meters away from you decides to move in full combat gear, but in a game you might know someone is nearby and moving, but determining the direction and distance of said movement is difficult even with quality headphones. Even things like the original stalker's crouch vs standing indicator were important. There is also the fact that the player character has a vision radius of 110-120 degrees, which you cannot match on a single monitor without things looking awfully weird, which again a minimap seeks to counter by offering you a situational awareness that is somewhat closer to what the player character would actually have.
Removing ammo type and count is okay, as the player character is just as likely as you are to know the number of rounds remaining, but there needs to be a button to push that will let you remove the mag and manually check the number of rounds left. I would give an exact number there in order to simplify things. If you pull red orchestra's retarded "half full" crap, then you look ridiculous when the player character pulls out a 1911 mag, which has obvious holes in the side to tell you exactly how many rounds remain like many pistol and some rifle mags, and he gives an inaccurate guesstimate.
Edited:
I think the difference in quality of weapons would decrease if ballistics were better modeled.
The TOZ is nice because it hits like a truck. With better sound, ballistics, and armor that doesn't magically allow people to soak up tons of bullets, I don't think the higher quality weapons would annoy as much because they too would hit like they should vs people.
You type far too much.
Woah, flashbacks to when Priboi Story was first released, holy shit
where did that come from, weird
I think my weird-ass sleep schedule is starting to fuck with my mentality. Either that or my house has become a psychological anomaly.
There's a controller about.
I remember when I tried playing Priboi Story. Got a disease from touching a dirty Sidorovich and pretty much went around every little thing in the game and screwed the story up.
I've always liked gas mask overlays if they're done well. It can add a little to the immersion when you take a round to the head that doesn't kill you, but hits hard enough to crack/dent your helmet badly. I would think that running and fighting in a gas mask would be very unpleasant at best.
I'd like it too.
Only metro 2033 did gasmasks right
Everything else makes them obnoxious and overly obvious.
:ninja:
I've never seen a good overlay in STALKER. Metro 2033's overlays were really nice though.

It's standalone, a preinstalled version of RMA is not required.
Nevermind I'm pretty sure i fixed it
All my stalker bros in dooms act like brain dead lemmings and kill themselves with anomalies in the first 10 seconds of the game start, does anyone else have this problem?
Yeah I loved how Metro handled them. I wish STALKER had that same system, filters and all.
Eh...gettin kinda bored of SGM now. I wish you could keep the feeling of the first few hours of the game, as Gunfox said. Where ammo and supplies are scarce, and the better weapons are even more rare. But even with the harder mods once you know how to play the game it just delays you getting tons of stuff by a couple hours at best.
Just wait till you're playing freeplay, that's when all the cool missions kick in. Oh and zombies EVERYWHERE
Is there a lot more freeplay content? I need to get myself a better suit than the SEVA one.
Yeah. After you beat the main game and go into freeplay, you get a bunch of missions and unlock more locations
Oh, cool. Like the original SoC locations?
Agroprom, Dark Valley, X18, and Army Warehouses. Each with their own missions and cool stuff
Gas mask overlays just don't work in stalker at all, no matter how you try, it will just look like a piece of texture slapped over the screen, and it also looks incredibly stiff compared to the headbob.
Sorry I was sleeping but someone already posted it for you and Teh Zip so its all good, I'm not sure how the translation works with it though by the way
I hate to sound ignorant, but how the hell do I download it? Do I need to download that toolbar thing first?
Never mind, I downloaded the suspicious Russian toolbar and managed to download the file. Deleted that shit as soon as I got the RMA though.
Is there a good translation for SGM 2.1 out yet?
Open the download link in a new tab and it skips the toolbar.
Not even that, it asks you on the page if you want to download it, just untick it and download.
Man, 300K for the Dawn Exoskeleton suit. Just barely got to 100K. Should I just stick with my SEVA for awhile or is there a better alternative?
Well this is the final translation

Add a subtle vignette to the screen and there you go... that's your fucking gas mask.(This is also how I'd prefer gas mask overlays)
well thats enough stalker for today

Bonus image of a chimera giving me a heart attack:
Dirge For the Planet guitar is aweome.
Uhh... how do I even install the Shadow RMA mod? I put everything in the main SoC folder, and... it crashes on startup. Not even a normal X-ray crash, the .exe itself crashes. No errorlog.
Tried using the default XR_3DA.exe, and it gives me std: out of memory.
