Guess that's why EA isn't on Steam anymore.
Guess that's why EA isn't on Steam anymore.
It's not extra though. If you've played the games then you know it's a pretty significant part of the lore that shouldn't just fucking pop out of nowhere. And whilst developers are trying to make money they still have to respect their customers by not pulling dumb shit like this.
“If you’re not making your customers happy you’re doing something stupid”
-Gabe Newell.
Well they don't have to turn over profit to Valve when their games are located on their own program, and they have the resources to manage their own digital store. So it was inevitable really. I could see EA trying to just buy out steam completely in the near future.
Even then, who knows how much is EA's choice. Publishers kind of control everything, considering they pay for all of your game.
Personally, I rather just wait for the game and play it, before I ever make a judgement of its quality.
What on earth have Origin and Steam got to do with anything? We're discussing the dlc bullshit.
The chopping up of the story comes from acclamation between BioWare and EA. The bad story is all BW. You people seriously need stop acting like BW hasn't had a sea change because they have. They are not the same company you remember from nostalgia and they're never going to be again. Thinking that BW was immune to EA's influence is completely moribund. EA pays the bills.

Re read the past 7 posts.
Cheating items is morally grey, but this shit deserves a permaban from all Origin multiplayer games.
Look, I'm not one for getting into arguments on the internet, because at the end of the day, nobody comes out of it looking good, or in the right. But I feel I have a point to make here. People seem to be making the argument that this is optional character DLC. It is optional DLC because it was removed from the game. Anything is optional, if it is removed, and then you are asked to pay an additional fee for it.
Why did I make the comparison to the Krogan genophage plot, that seems to have come off as hyperbolic? Because this is a damn Prothean; the race whose existence and extinction has been at the heart of the Mass Effect series. The discovery of a living, breathing, 50,000 year-old member of their race is a huge deal to the franchise's lore; just as much of a deal as the resolution to the Salarian/Krogan conflict, or the Geth/Quarian war, if not more so. To gloss over such a plot revelation, and relegate it to DLC-status comes across as having a blatant disregard for the series' storyline and lore.
Perhaps a better example would be Garrus; his inclusion as a squadmate in ME3 is currently semi-optional, as he can die on the Suicide Mission. Would the circumstances be the same, had BioWare made him 100% optional, ensuring that he can only be recruited if you purchase the Day One 'Archangel' DLC? In fact, I would argue this current situation is perhaps even worse, as whilst Garrus is certainly an integral part of the franchise, EA has on this occasion, apparently decided that a revelatory element, such as a Prothean, is not a 'key' story element, and has devalued it's existence within the story.
The most important point I feel needs to be made is precedent. Here, a substantial plot-point and element of the series has been removed, and relegated to the level of an 'optional' element. The question is, how much of the game are you willing to see be made 'optional' before it becomes an issue? Zaeed and Kasumi were both optional characters, true; however one came packaged with every single new copy of the game, in additional to other free content, whilst another was released later into the game's lifecycle, following additional work on her loyalty mission. More to the point, but characters 'felt' like they were optional; whilst they had intended to be part of the game from the start, they lack recruitment missions, or dialogue progression, and were clearly later additions to the series. Do you miss out on content if you choose not the recruit them, yes, but you do not lose out on lore, or story progression.
Shale from Dragon Age is another example; their original role was removed from the game, and by the time they had chosen to revive the character, it was too late to integrate them into the main plot. As a result, the character was made totally optional, and released with every new copy of the game. Should you choose not to recruit Shale, you miss out on additional dialogue, and a 'loyalty' mission-of-sorts, but you do not lose a substantial element of the core plot.
Ultimately, whilst I may disagree almost entirely with Day One DLC, I understand it's purported purpose; to encourage fresh purchases (sending more revenue to the developer). However, the job of Day One DLC is not to remove pre-existing elements of the storyline, in order to create additional revenue, or to encourage players to purchase the $80 collector's edition. Major releases are currently more expensive than they have ever been, and to me, this seems to be an example of a publisher seeing how far it can go, how much it can remove from the base game, whilst still getting customers to pay an additional fee on release day, in order to 'complete' their game.
Phew.
There isn't any justification for Day One DLC. If it's being released at the same time as the game it's obviously already finished and should be a part of the base game.
Here's your damned justification!
L-O-D-S OF E-M-O-N-E
WAS THA SPELL?
LOAAADS A MONEY!
they must of thought the bin files that contained the game content were uncrackable or something because as far as i can tell there is no anti-cheat or verification of client files at all. hopefully this will change with the full game because the crap in the video just ruins everything that makes the multiplayer fun and addicting. the MP is too fun to just die out only a few months after release because of cheaters like crysis 2
Capitalist pig days like these make me wish it were ILLEGAL for such heresies to be done, making it so that EA wouldn't pull this shit ever. But they're absolute monsters, just like Activision, and have no place in the New World.
kill the rich feed the poor video game anarchy 2k12 burn down EA
God the matchmaking system is such utter shit
Fuck off with that asswater back to consoles and give the PC at least some semblance of a browser, instead of being connected to someone with a 800 ping, or, not being able to connect at all and having NO way to escape out of the COMMUNICATING screen, other than Ending Task.
Fuck
I don't even care about Dedicated servers, I just want to see them on a browser, so I can pick one with decent latency. Is that too much to fuckin ask
I agree with a lot of his points but I thought it was funny how he said that UK Gamers got ripped off "A hell of a lot more" when it came to the Digital Deluxe Edition vs. Americans.
Not really true. Sure, it's about 5 dollars more expensive in the GBP equivalent than the US version, but at the same time their standard edition is about 5 dollars cheaper in the equivalent. So it evens out.
melee krogan gonna melee.
I preordered the digital deluxe edition and I'm not gonna cancel it because Battlefield 3
a bronze match got you that many credits?
Bioware has officially been indoctrinated.

END OF RINE AGAIN.
I can't believe they're giving BF3 away for free. I almost wish I hadn't bought BF3 at Gamestop used and conned a free new online pass out of EA just so I could have gotten it for free now
Then again I think the Physical version of the Collector's Edition > Digital. I'm getting a Lithograph and a patch and I get to go to a midnight release and get other free shit like posters and your mom.
They did this for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 on Xbox.
On one side you would have the Soviet faction and on the other you'd have the Allies.
Was pretty neat.
Valve is a privately owned company. EA couldn't buy out Valve unless Gabe was literally selling it.
Wait hold on I'm confused about something.
Didn't they say somewhere that in ME3 there would actually be blindfire so you wouldn't have to stand up out of cover and go "HEY I'M RIGHT HERE SHOOT ME"?
I haven't noticed that in ME3 demo yet. You still pop out like a retard.
Urban legend.
using that 1 credit/pack mod, dont know why it's giving me loads of money.
IIRC, the Prothean is still an integral part of the main game. I thought the DLC just allowed you to recruit him... Don't shoot me if I'm wrong
Don't scope.
I'm just going to watch the mission on YouTube and be done with it. Simple enough for me, really.
This DLC shenanigans is typical for a public corporation. I guess it all comes from investors and shareholders who want to maximize profits but do not understand how the industry works or why steam and valve are so successful. I think Gabe said something along the lines like "Don't treat your customers like they are stupid".
Valve has basically won its self a monopoly on PC game sales (a wet dream for lots of corporations) by winning the loyalty of its users. Its stupid and frustrating that these companies pull crap like this when we can all be better off.
I wasn't. I was just clicking fire and Shepard would just do that hopping thing where he'd stand up take a shot and sit down.
Edited:
And this is why I like Valve/Steam more than EA/Origins and hate EA/Origins so much.
If you don't buy it he lives out the rest of his days on Jamaica.
First time tried silver:

I recall Bioware saying this was only going to be done for the Collector's Edition
I cannot help but agree completely. I have never been a fan of DLC but neither have I been one to get too worked up over it, either. However, this is plain crossing the line. The decision to make such an important subject to the game merely something accessible as DLC, is nothing short of stupid. It wouldn't be as much of an issue with me (or many others, I'd assume) if it was just some other new character; but someone who- you would think- would be ground breaking to the overall story one would bet that character deserves a place and purpose in the game's vanilla release.
I'm sure the character would add a little insight to the Protheans (can I stop spoilering this? I mean, the cat's kind of out of the bag by now) and the Reapers, but the fact that the character is completely optional to begin with makes me think the revelatory character is nothing but a side-mission and a new face with little to add to the table. Unfortunately, I feel obligated to get the DLC now because I'd be missing out on the character for whatever it may be worth (since, when it comes to anything I am particularly stingy about characters).
Hopefully, those claims are correct that he is in the full game and bears purpose, but the DLC just allows you to recruit him and do a mission. If that's the case, slightly redeemable... slightly.
Wait, someone mentioned something about Battlefield 3 being free a while ago, or am i just going insane?
