Yeah, speardwarves aren't as effective as they could. They are great at piercing deep organs, but once again the game greatly favours slashing weapons when it comes to killing because of bleeding being deadlier than a skewered kidney.

Maybe I should mod in something to make skewered organs deadlier in some way or another

It does seem like a skewered organ should incapacitate all but the strongest enemies, not just make them die slowly.Orkel posted:
Also, why is it that broken bones rarely inhibit the use of a limb? I've had a vampire endure 100 hammer strikes that break every bone in his body still be able to run around to avoid the giant bats I released in his cell. Or are vampires just a special case?

Vampires are tough as hell. If you want to make breaking bones cause dwarves to give into pain, go in the raws and up the amount pain receptors of bone tissue a bit.

Holy crap Vampires are scary in adventure mode. (Spoiler about vampires that you might not know)
I was tasked to kill a vampire in a town, it had like over a thousand kills and so many human teeth/nail accessories; anyway I managed to find him and kill him with some help from the local peasants so next I did a couple of more quests, like kill a cougar and etc.
Next, I stopped at a fortress and before I knew it the bloody corpse of the vampire came back to life and was trying to hunt me down! I was really shocked and scared. I had recruited a few followers by then so we easily took it down but it would not stop reviving, it was like Jesus! We kept on killing it after it came back to life, I tried to see if stabbing it in the heart would finish it off but I couldn't attack it when it wasn't revived and my followers kept killing it so damn quickly. Eventually I got bored and wondered off and talked to the Lord of the fortress for a quest. I came back and the corpse was gone! There were no blood trails or anything, scary shit man.

Spearmasters are incredibly annoying. Can get through better armor than what their spear is made of and dodge like fuck and hit with almost every strike.Fucking speardwarves, holy shit.:

Yeah, my spearmaster taking on a spearelf riding a fucking warbear. The elves have been ambushing and they're always riding bears. I slaughtered all of them.

This game reminds me of Oregon Trail pretty often. I guess it's because you load up on supplies at the beginning, and hope that you chose wisely in order to make it through the harsh winter and survive with your little "family."
It would be kind of cool if there was an Oregon-Trail-esque mode of the game where you personally guide your wagon full of dwarves to the site that's been picked out.

Yeah, he's in trouble. Will the motherland frown on me for letting their liaison get killed?

Construct a dwarvern court and prosecute all the undead for sexaul harassment, and sentence them to 3 years of swimming in magma.

This goblin bowman (who ran out of ammo) has been chasing a merchant and his donkey all over my map, and I'm pretty sure the donkey is immortal. Look at the size of the blood trail it's left.

on my previous fort a weretortoise attacked early on, and bit two of my soldiers that fought him (broke the hand of another, and killed a 4th.)
i locked the two in their bedrooms, and walled it off, and now i have two pet weretortoises.
Since I'm regenning a world due to the new version, i think I'll let them out.

Woah what a update on my child fort.
The caravan finally unstuck itself and as soon as it left I immediatly got a migrant wave, I was looking throught their skills and looked into the migrant stats, a lot of them were High Master Axe or Sworddwarfs.
Now not to look a gifted horse in the mouth, but I got suspicious and started naming them all.
I got 7 vampires in a wave of 20 migrants.
I had to quit before the wave ended, going to check the entire wave and lock up the vampires this afternoon.
It's like a bloody invasion, thank god for the nickname bug and that I know of ways to utilize vampires as sick ass mining machines.

If they don't I can give myself a valid excuse to postpone updating and falling to vampire invasions.
What the christ I just got a wave of migrants including 2 vampires who walked 4 tiles then fell onto the ground being unable to grasp and breathe.
Ah well at least the goblins will have fun with them.

Oh god I tried setting up a danger room and I found out there is a upright Masterwork Adamantine 2h sword on level 10.
This is going to be loads of FUN isn't it?

how do you guys deal with having to manage like 100-200 dwarves? i feel like its an impossible task, even with dwarf therapist. especially the military management, since therapist doesn't help with it one bit. oh and combined with vampires its just frustrating.

It's not too bad, just gotta catch them when they're migrating to the fortress. It's a bit tricky when you're not using Dwarf Therapist though. With the military I just find the ones with good attributes and not really any useful skills (usually while they're still blinking the x for immigrant) and give them a custom job name so I can add them into the military later.

Am I misremembering, or did hammer dwarfs used to send enemies flying when they used to engage them? 'Cause that was the most satisfying part of playing one in adventure mode and now it's just boring :(

They used to do that in the 2009 version of the game.
DF2010 made weapons act more realistic, and warhammers are also modelled as their real counterparts, instead of being huge two handed fantasy smashing machines they're now realistic one handed small hammers.
