Skrillex had my jaw drop when i first heard his first album consisting some of the best electro i have ever heard come out of that genre. Unfortunately, his dubstep is highly nauseating which is no suprise that 'Scary Monsters and Sprites' and 'Scatta (with foriegn Beggas) will never be on my playlist. First of the Year Equinox is the only well made dubstep by him i can listen to. It's a shame because Skrillexs hooks are amazing and then he ruins it.

The accepted definition is that the singer completely writes the majority, if not all of the songs the artist/band puts out. the way she plays her music, whether it be electronic, rock, or jazz have nothing to do with it.

Tags=/=Genre
Tags can be genres but just because it's a tag doesn't mean it's an actual genre lol. Like you said a genre is about how the music sounds, not how it's made. The term singer-songswriter obviously deals with how the music is made.
