How do americans on average afford cars relatively more expensive than us poor brits? Is insurance cheaper over there or something?
Average Insurance costs here range from $1000-$1600 when you are new, with $1600 being really high, that's usually if you're new and drive a motorbike.
Each year nets you a 5% discount here, up to a maximum of 40% off, so after a period of time, you could have anywhere from $500-$1000/year insurance, depending on your vehicle etc.
I know someone on these forums pays something like $30 or $50 per month. It's surprisingly cheap.
Britain is pretty infamous for having extremely high insurance, I've seen quotes as high as $8000 for a new driver in the UK. Very strange. Also, you guys have to worry about insurers refusing to insure you,
which would never happen here. Insurance Companies generally insure based on the cost to repair/pay out for the car, with motorbikes being slightly more expensive to insure due to the danger of cycles.
Insurance only gets really expensive if you get in multiple accidents within the span of a few years, with 2-3 accidents boosting your insurance from anywhere from $2000 to $6000.
I insure my 3.8 V6 for 30$ a month
5.0 v8 $1600 a year
New jersey decided to be new jersey and you start with 3 points on your license.
So i get higher rates
Its so goddamed stupid, the idea is to keep young drivers from wanting to do shit that can get them points on their license since if you get 6(?) you lose it
so instead of making it so new drivers needed to get 3 points to lose it, they make you get 3 points
1984 Chevrolet Corvette $52 a month
I love America sometimes
Not to mention that our gas prices are much lower than in Europe.
$2600 for 1998 3.6l v8. gotta love BC's auto insurance monopoly.
Ohh mannn I got into it about 2 years ago got a T-28 Trojan.
I got back into it recently, I just itch for it every day.
It's kind of nice to have a station wagon. I fit 2 Carbon Z Yak 54's (47"x45"), T-28 Trojan dissembled, and all my gear.
Also moar info on dat plane with FPV.
Do you ever put mice or insects in your plane cockpit? Sounds like it would be fucking AWESOME.
This is my currently not running RC10GT. Well, it might be running now, but my starter box is dead so idk. I thought the glow plug was dead (it was faint, at least), but i bought a new one and it still wouldn't start. Then i remembered that the last time i 'ran' it, it was with some old shitty as fuck nitro, and it kept dying(yet, prior to that it was running better than it ever had). So the conclusion that i've come to is, the carb was probably clogged. I don't have any carb cleaner, or money, so i just took it off the car and forced some nitro through it (by blowing into the back-pressure hose on the fuel tank). I don't really know how it flowed before, but it trickled out after blowing into the hose. I am hoping that i cleared any blockage in the carb, but i don't have any way of know. So, to reiterate, the reason i still don't know if it will start is because i killed the starter box battery trying to start it prior to my brainstorm.
Then you have like for like car cover which means if Mr Salesman has a crash in his new BMW the insurance company have to pay the rental fees on a similar BMW for a courtesy car whilst his own car is being repaired, the cost of the hire car is normally inflated and prolonged so the hire company can make a bit of extra cash, as is the repair, so the body shop can make a little extra too.
Then you have the higher number of uninsured drivers crashing into people which the insurance companies of the victim have to fork out the costs as they cannot claim from the driver who is at fault.
Car vandalism is probably a lot more common in the UK as over here we have a culture that if you have a nice car then instead of being congratulated for your hard work, you have your car keyed and the mirrors kicked off by the jealous scumbags.
And lastly our roads are a lot more densley populated than the US meaning it's inevitable that more cars will crash into eachother.
So to finish, the insurance companies are probably paying out for a lot more claims, plus corporate greed so we're fucked and always will be.
I just shelled out £1811 on insurance for my picasso, egh.
The fpv platform was built on a t-28 trojan, it has gps telemetry and night vision and allowed me to practically fly IFR, I have a couple of old videos that I'll dig up later where I chase cars and get honked at :v Before I sold it I was working on self guidance using the gps.
Now that I have a wagon I really want to get back into it, thinking of making a quadcoptor with an HD camera or something and fly over drift events making cool vids
I used to have an RC Cessna with an 8 foot wingspan. Damn brother flew is straight into the power lines. We got it out, next time I let him mess with it he went straight into a curb trying to take off...
That is what sharing gets me. Broken shit.
I work on this thing more than I get to drive it
Insurance can be cheaper in alot of aspects if you are a mid 20's driver. Otherwise from 18-24 you literally can be expected to pay over 2k a year on decent coverage. You can get minimum coverage but honestly all the things that arn't covered are the things you worry about.
Example being we have all our cars under my grandparents for this reason (All these cars have complete full coverage including glass, collision etc with 1k deductable)
98 Accord - $600 a year (after 2 accidents on it)
99 Grand Prix - $400 A Year (No accidents)
99 Camry - $350 A Year (1 Accident)
I'm surprised, I also did RC. Had a GWS Slowstick and Formosa. Gave the slowstick away, still have the Formosa, which is wicked fast. But I never get the chance to fly it anymore. Have two little Syma helicopters now.
I think my insurance is about $1500 a year, which isn't bad at all for a brand new driver with drivers training.
$120 a month here, and that's only liability. That's with a clean driving record and a 3.4 gpa
1800$ a year for me. I cant complain...
$60 a month, so like $720 a year.
18 year old male driving a 2 door car.
I guess I talked to the right people. My neighbor managed to get me a pretty sweet deal.
Speaking of RC
Got this thing off of a friend who found it left in his attic when he moved in. It's about three feet long and completely dead :V:
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I took off all of the pads and struts when I was working on it. They're in pretty good condition, so I might sell them along with the body.
Got the Liberty/Legacy. Finally got a chance to wash it, decided to have a go at taking pictures of it at night. Not great at photography but they look ok I think.
Had a couple of people pass by giving me weird looks, I parked the car slanted across a dead street in a business park
Got lucky with the light beam at the back. Long exposure, some car passed by, didn't think of it at the time, saw the result, pleasantly surprised.
Obligatory dash check shot
I fucking love dash checks
Not digging the wheels or tail lights, but it is a damn good looking truck.
yeah i need some stock tail lights. goddamn chrome ricer shit.
you can't even see the fucking things in day light.
