Good, Samsung's ICS is buggy as fuck for me. The timer resets itself and it crashes a lot trying to switch into the gallery from the camera app.
Edited:
Plus it just generally feels a lot more sluggish than gingerbread did.
The wallpaper and colour theme are just stock ICS
well with my luck it will happen all the time
Got the droid razr maxx, the battery on this thing lasts forever. Use it a shitload during the day and it has half a charge left come like 11pm, I stopped charging it at 7am. Loving this phone.
gah you're so lucky. i have the razr, just not the maxx.
now release it for the att note
not gonna happen for a while
enjoy your touchwiz ics
smartphone batteries are atrocious and should be the number 1 priority imo
I concur
What's the point of having a phone with a quad-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, a 720p 'super AMOLED' screen, 4G connectivity, HDMI out, etc if the battery lasts 8 hours at most?
Hardware should just ramp down voltages and CPU clocks more to save power. That's what I've done and it really helps.
Step 1: Design the phone to be able to have as much space for the battery as possible. Put cameras and thick modules on the top of the phone, have a flat PCB board ala Razr, and put the battery in the space that the thick modules up top don't occupy. Barring that, just get at least the same WHr per in^2 as the iPhone 4S.
Step 2: Use screens like AH-IPS (Reduced power consumption or outdoor readability) or black-heavy UI(Change black text to white, white background to black in web browsers, go as much black as possible within the UI) with SAMOLED. Oh, and PROPER AUTOBRIGHTNESS SETTINGS. All OEMs love to make screens brighter than they need to at a given level of ambient light, this can use anywhere from 10-20% more battery life.
Step 3: Use the most power efficient radios and modems as possible. Fast dormancy when supported, dropping to EDGE between syncs and when data not expected for long periods of time, automatic management of LTE radios, integration of partial wakelock statistics, warnings for excessive CPU usage by apps, etc. CPU governors that balance performance and battery consumption, serious under the hood optimization of the kernel, choosing SoCs with the greatest performance per watt, etc. The AT&T One X/HTC One XL is a good example of this, but even though the modem uses a lot less power, radios still need more optimization for efficiency.
Edited:
Out of the box the ondemand governor stays low, and is a regressive CPU governor. Shoots up high on demand, then backs off until it's at a frequency that works with continuous tasks for less power. Either you race to sleep faster, or you get to the ideal frequency. It does the job, just risks using a bit more power from the clock spike if it overestimated.
Guys Guys
I found a browser which actually works like a windowed application allowing you to resize and move around its window (So you can for example browse fscepunch and reorganize your home screen at the same time
I can't post screenshots but its pretty amazing
Its called overscreen browser
GUYS, REMEMBER THIS?
Every time I see the lockscreen I wonder how many seconds is it going to take before everyone will get bored of it.
Is this theme any good? If yes, how do I install it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1334922
My god, installing ICS takes less steps than this.
I get like 5 hours on intense usage, as in playing HD games online, I kinda don't care if the phone is thick and has a huge, long lasting battery. In general,, manufacturers and designers still need to stuff better batteries into the devices.
So all of this is needed to install just a theme? Is it better to do this or stay with ICS and TouchWiz?
It's still Touchwiz, it's just a theme. The only way to get rid of Touchwiz is flashing a different ROM.
CM9 or AOKP, which has a better life for GSII compared to the gingerbread MIUI?
Oh fuck CM9 sucks for the SGSII and is no longer being updated. Use AOKP. Wifi battery life is great, but data still sucks, but is better than most. Battery sucks because there are no kernel sources out yet from Samsung for AOSP ROM's. The Touchjizz ROM's are the best with battery since they use the Samsung kernel sources.
Anyone use the iDisplay app? I bought it just now, and it seems to be working pretty smoothly. It turns your android/iDevice into a second monitor (Or a 4th in my case)
It's useful for my laptop where I only have 1 monitor.
I've also installed Android/ICS next to Meego on my Nokia N9, works pretty well but sticking to Meego until a more featured version is out.
Are you high? Latest CM9 SGS2 nightly came out yesterday.
I have the Sprint SGSII...
Isn't that the skyrocket
oh.

I think that's the Samsung Galaxy S™ II Epic™ 4G Touch
So what are the top end android phones on the market (or coming to the market soon)?
HTC One X
Samsung Galaxy SIII
LG Optimus 4X
SGS3, HTC One X.
Optimus 4X is such a shitty name
posting from firefox beta. its not bad but has a long way to go.
So, I can play Android games using a PC to emulate it using Androids SDK, right? And play online games, right?
Android emulator is painfully slow.
So does anyone know much about the phone network GiffGaff? Looks good to me.
And does anyone else happen to own a Orange San Francisco II? (I'm poor, don't judge me.)
Well, giffgaff is the only company that gives you cash for answering questions on their forum. Technically I get my minutes free as I make the money spent back via payback. However, there have been horror stories of porting in so I'd suggest you steer clear of porting in. You also get £5 free credit if you are referred by another member, which I can link you to if you want.
Ah shoot, sorry dude, i've already ordered a sim. But what do you mean by 'porting in'?
Transferring your number across from another network.
Ah I thought as much. I'm planning on keeping my old sim anyway so I guess that's no problem.
