Say you have a pretty busy, 1-color design. Imagine it printed in gray in a slightly lighter gray shirt. That would work right?

There's good graphic tees and there's bad graphic tees. When someone says these words, "graphic tees", I instantly think of the bad ones though, so maybe thats why they have a bad rep?

yeah, but it's not the end of the world to wear one

i seriously doubt anybody in this thread lives up to the expectations this thread proposes except for maybe that Bldry guy

i'm not saying other people don't look good. most of you do. but the expectations are pretty hard to reach.

thats not what i said my two posts dont negate eachother
im just saying that while yes u judge people based on the way they dress its an incredible leap in logic to assume that wearing a shirt of something = their favourite thing. isnt the natural assumption and judgement that they are a fan of said thing? to have some kinda weird assumption its their most favouritest!! thing is just strange on your part

stop trying to wicked burn me with posts that in no way contradict eachother
In my opinion wearing something from a TV show/film is kind of going too far. Even if it's not your favorite thing, it's difficult to assume otherwise when you make yourself a projection of it. If you were to meet someone new while wearing a shirt like that, it would come across like a piece of your personality. They should be watched and talked about, not worn. That's like the line between someone who liked whatever show/film however much, and a fanboy/girl. If that makes any sense

Plus if you got a shirt for everything you liked even if it wasn't your favorite thing, wouldn't your wardrobe fill up to the brim with pop culture shirts? Then you'll just look like you don't know how to dress so you fall back on buying lots of them

Same with games. E.G I enjoyed the Half Life games, but if I saw someone wearing a Gordon Freeman themed Tshirt, I would just get sick in my mouth or something

And I do concede that it's not AS bad if the reference is subtle and only fans would get that it's from something, but still in most of those cases it's pretty obvious that it is a reference of some kind, so the wearer will still look a bit of a turd

Yeah we should all be like postage stamps that detail our interests

What is wrong with dressing well and just telling people what you're into

    And I meant seriously

    I would

Are you one of the kids that actually does that, because I think my response is pretty much par for the course

the only reason a lot of people who post here hate graphic tees is because pretty much everyone bandwagons and doesn't have their own opinion
    Ooh wow edgy

    You're an idiot

When graphic tees come up in this thread, there's almost always conflict over their acceptability, because different opinions

The ones that the thread pretty much as a whole don't like are over-the-top loud and ugly designs done in massive prints

It's less like bandwagoning and more like artistic aesthetics. If you see a painting done in unpleasant colours that all clash with each other and with a horrible composition, and everyone in the gallery hates it, you can't cry wolf about them all following each other's opinion

If I saw someone with a shirt of Gordon Freeman, would I think that:

    a) He's interested in the Half-Life Series?
    b) He likes the Half-Life Series?
or c) He's completely in love with the Half-Life Series?

It could be any of these, but most likely, and what at least I assume him to be. He could also just like the series and not have a good fashion sense.

It's the same with people who are obsessed with anime, but they're pretty normal and people who like anime but are socially out of tune

I didn't say one would be obsessed did I?
Also, it's assuming things, people do it automatically. Like when you see a black guy with a hoodie in an alley and your alarms instantly raise
And even if you took it that way, take it this way then: "The guy really likes the Half-Life Series"

i was mostly talking to mako
and still, pop culture references on clothing are so widespread, so prevalent that really, literally nobody thinks of it as odd or "nerdy" or fanboyish, it's just normal wear
i don't know why anyone would think of someone as lesser if they're wearing a pop culture reference shirt
sure, you can dislike the way it looks, but if you start talking about the people wearing it, that's fucked up

    Edited:

    sure, there's lines to draw
it's much more socially acceptable to go out in my SAVE FERRIS shirt than my gordon freeman shirt
but even then, if it's aesthetically pleasing, why not?

I actually rarely see pop culture related shirts outside, that's probably why I'm assuming such things. If there were more people wearing say, Mario shirts or Gordon Freeman shirts, I would take them less seriously. It would still be weird nontheless
