Have any of you seen The Descendants? I only saw about 1/4 of it (towards the ending) and it was really good. I'd give it at least an 8 from what I saw.

    watched alien

    8/10

while it captured that setting perfectly (and ships like that are my favorite horror scenarios. it's what made dead space 1 better than 2 for me) it seemed a little too hasty for my taste (the ending and the picking off one by one thing mostly), i like my horror movies to crawl. watching aliens now.

also i've got the quadrilogy box set so i'm watching the special versions with cut scenes.

    Edited:

also the lighting in the end just before she gets to the ship when the giant fan illuminates and shadows her face was insanely fucking awesome. it was so artificial, if i wasn't so tired at the time i would have played dead space.
what the fuck? Alien is one of the slowest paced horrors ive ever seen and you say it was too hasty? is your brain still broken?

    Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (2001) - 9.5/10

Simply put, if you liked the series you'll love the movie. It's really cool to see the characters again, the budget was upped a bit, the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic and there's even some fancy CGI effects (for the time)

Some really clever camera tricks in this one. Also it manages to avoid so many tropes and twists that anybody would see coming which is something I love to see.

    2001: A Space Odyssey - 7/10

I thought it was alright, I didn't think it was spectacular, and it didn't change my life. I thought the effects were really good for a movie made back in 1968, but as for a lot of the other stuff:

-The music was alright, wasn't good, wasn't bad, it was alright.
-I got tired of looking at those fucking monkeys within the first two minutes, let alone the other 15 minutes.
    -wtf happened at the end
-Sequences in the movie are long as fuck. Honestly, I don't think we need to watch a ship docking to a station for eight minutes before something actually happens.
So Dave just ditched that other guy and let him drift in space? Wow Dave, nice job.
-People give this too much credit by calling it Kubrick's "best" movie. Come on now.

Well those are my cons. Now for some pros:

-Very artsy, a lot of the stuff was pretty to look at, and really well put together for a movie as aged as it is.
I actually kinda felt bad for HAL when Dave was killing his memory. I never thought I would have had that kind of emotion towards a homicidal machine. What really did it was when HAL kept saying he "was scared" and when he started to sing "Daisy".
    -Pretty relaxing
    -Ending leaves you thinking.

Overall, I don't think the movie is the best Kubrick movie ever made. Not by a long shot. Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, etc. have the essential needs that make a movie a movie, and I'm not saying 2001 isn't a movie, I'm just saying it's missing a lot of key elements.

    There's my 5 cents.
Watch it again in a few weeks or months, you'll get it more the second time, I'd say. But after I watched it even the first time I didn't particularly like it right away, but over the course of the next day or couple days and weeks things just kept coming into my head, the genius of everything just started to click, things began to make sense and it became amazing for the second watch.

But I agree it's not his best film, A Clockwork Orange is probably my favourite.

    Murder By Numbers- 7.5/10 (2002)

Saw this was on tv last night and was interested in it since Ryan Gosling was in it because I've heard he's fantastic in Drive (Which I'm yet to see) and it was a good film. Wasn't a whole lot more but Ryan Gosling was really good in it. It follows two rich kids who kill a woman to see if they could get away with it basically (they're both smart and one of them is a genius with forensics and stuff, and they set it all up so they don't get caught) and a police duo assigned to catching the killer. It goes between following the teens and the cops throughout the film, and makes you feel sympathy for both teams, so you're not sure who you'd rather win. It's pretty interesting and worth a watch.

    Three Colors: Blue - 9/10

Superb, the sort of movie you get lost in.
It (probably purposefully)lacked this sort of warmth that made me fall in love with Red, but this is still every bit as beautiful and compelling.

It's amazing how Kieslowski manages to make every scene, every shot, every line of dialogue, every bit of music so essential to the movie as a whole without having it come off as cold and mechanical(a problem many of David Cronenberg's films suffer from, as well as Ridley Scott's on occasion), something not many directors whose work I'm familiar with are capable of pulling off.

If White is as brilliant as Red and Blue, this may very well become my favorite movie trilogy.

I found the ending a bit dull.

But I like the part where they tries to discover their powers.

    Good movie, but I wouldn't give it a 8, more like a 7 or 6.

Bad CGI, but then, its a low budget movie.

AND THE BLOODY TRAILER IS A GIVE AWAY.

White is a LOT different to the other two. It's sillier and less expressive in terms of colour, but I think it's worthy.

I found Super sometimes unnecessarily violent and honestly didn't know if I should have laughed or cried. It seemed to me a black comedy with a twisted sense of humor, that I imagine only a limited audience can really appreciate. The story was pretty interesting. Maybe it was too much on the simple side. I can understand how people can really like it, but it's not my kind of film.

    Seven Samurai - 9/10

Honestly, it's pretty hard for me to rate this movie. I normally don't watch movies this long, or this old    or this asian   . I like how every character (mainly the samurai) has a very defined personality, and how it could change from a happy, light-hearted film to a serious movie. The flag scene was really touching (seriously, I almost cried in that part).
