How about some sort of destructive system then? A plasma fueled compactor or incinerator could have some kind of use in getting rid of highly radioactive uranium cream cakes.
Or even better, a transformative device to turn the waste into depleted uranium pellets so you can use them in weaponry. Probably not the best idea to turn a normal pistol into an ultra-penetrating cannon in an underwater facility (read : for ss13 this is always the best idea)

how about a compacter that gives you "radioactive scrap" to plug into the autolathe and make better versions of tools, like ones that work faster/welders that have more fuel n shit

Well you don't really need to move a finger for the horror. Dark, lonely hallway with flickering lights + crazed Janitor (dunno if there will be Janitors in Centration, just using it as an example) that wants to stave your skull in with his mop = scary. Mostly because you are out for the round if you die (I assume it will be the same in Centration)Our main focus is to make the player feel sorta stressed and to be in tense situations
Horror is not really our thing we are working to but we do want to create a scary atmosphere.
Keep in mind the whole station is destructible so if something explodes while you are under there you would die pretty fast

Right now I've made three kinds of rods that can be put into the holders.
Uranium is the standard one,
Plutonium rods generate more energy but make an even more dangerous waste.
Plasma rods generate slightly less energy than Uranium, but hardly anything gets wasted.
For uranium/plutonium waste disposal, I'm thinking that engineers would be have many options, dumping them into the ocean by shooting them out a mass driver (While contaminating parts of the map), burying them (the safest option but you'll need a diving suit) or recycling the waste.

Or just do what the do in real life- store the depleted rods in a pool of water for the rest of eternity. A little bit of water completely blocks radiation.

Here's an idea I made for how nuclear waste could be disposed of in the nuclear engine of Europa Laboratory 65, it could work, and I don't think Nanotrasen has the money to properly dispose of hazardous materials anyway

Okay, three times. All three times I was in a ripley and I stopped by the mint as well. I ended up walking around with a ripley full of gold, silver, platinum, and the nuke. I redistributed the wealth how I saw fit. The nuke was delivered to the authorities. It was amusing watching them hide it when the vault was fucked.

The best round of my life happened last night on gibbed
It was 12:30, gaming on in space station 13 like always. Im a chemist, I make some stuff for medical, and ask if anyone needs anything. They don't, so I do the unthinkable.
I grab fries, lots of fries. I eat them all. I shit on the floor, and scoop up some poo. I mix together some ingredients, and to shorten it i end up with 7 jars of poo and mixture and 2 bottles of substance to make POO SMOKE.
I run around the station, letting off poo smoke left and right. Arrivals, the bar, the main junction. NOTHING is spared. I make them slip, and the station goes to chaos
"poo everywhere" "oh my god someones literally shitting up the station"
The puns hurt, but it was funny enough to say them. After my bombing runs, I get arrested, and thrown in jail for a while (4 minutes)
But then, something happened. My screen went black. I'm in medical, with a Buffer-o-matic 3000. I hear a voice.

The buffer is filled with poo, I go around, leaving poo trails behind me, running over people then pooing all over them. Its a fight for the buffer, people scramble to yank me off and have a go, but the admin keeps teleporting me. In the end, I get beaten by an Australian badass named Brian O'Neil to the sorts, and the shuttle gets called.
My sides were in orbit.

Ha, was messing about with the teleporter room on gibbed #3 when something went horribly wrong and a whole army of martians came in through it. Then, when I ran away (somehow) and analysed some artifacts, one of them had 76% chance of being a shield generator. It turned out to be a power draining sink and the entire station lost power because it had global range (That didn't show up on any tests
)
At this point everything has gone to shit, botany has created a dickload of ghostlier peppers and rainbow weed and everyone was just puking, shitting and gibbering incomprehensible stuff everywhere.
Then GBS broke out. The horror. In a powerless station, with martians.
I still don't know how the fuck I managed to escape but out of 43 people, only 4 made it, me included. The rest exploded before they even reached the arrivals hallway.

You should be glad it didn't bring in some kind of yeti ice man. I remember finding that when I first entered the research lab. Ran out of there so hard I left the door open. One of the medical doctors got eaten so I punched the yeti beast, who then turned around and ate me. Instantly. No mercy.

On that note, never ever activate artifacts unless you are 100% certain they are analyzed. Once a guy activated a meteor shower artifact simply by touching it. Near damn nothing survived.

I don't know if any of you lads know about a LPer called PlumpHelmetPunk, but he occasionally records himself playing SS13 and uploads it to his channel.
Today he uploaded a 2 hour long video of SS13, and I had nothing better to do other than watching it (procrastination!).
I can safely and proudly say I regret nothing of those 2 hours of watching SS13 being played by some guy. I really recommend this video if you've the spare time to waste watching it, although you could watch it at say 15 minutes at a time to ease it.
To sum the beginning up: Miner finds old captain suit and spiderman mask in space and becomes Captain Spiderman, goes back to the station and gets chased by the actual Captain and one of the Captain's henchmen dressed in yet another Captain suit. Movie-like plot follows.
There's the video
and the TL;DW: While being chased he becomes the hero of the people, but ends up arrested and gets stripped naked, losing everything he had including the mask. Gets brigged for indefinite time by the shit captain and then gets thrown in the common cell.
While in the common cell, the people of the station organise themselves and attempt to rescue Captain Spiderman from the cell, mess happens around him and they rescue him.
The pro-Captain spiderman lads escape and hide behind QM, when the Admin makes them traitors and gives them the objective to overthrow the shitty Captain and its chain of command, while Captain Spiderman must survive.
They get ready to fuck shit up, they give Captain Spiderman a wielding mask to make up for his lost Spiderman mask, and they infiltrate sec quarters, commando killing the Captain and his minions.
In the end, Captain Spiderman recovers his captain suit, his spiderman mask, gets revenge, and escapes on the shuttle with his followers.
That's the shit that makes SS13 fucking wonderful, even more now that I can't play it due to shit laptop.

Just had a great round on FPS. A Junk Golem got on the station, the captain gets kidnapped, a major battle royal happens in the thunderdome, the AI begins plotting it's evil plans... it was great.

I generally play the one job no one wants to play.
Chef.
I however manage to work together with the chemists time to time, and have people try my monkey meat tacos with whatever horrible things they gave me to put into them. After that, I have them all out for eating I get hammered to avoid suspicion.
I also left my puke out for someone to drink, don't know if they ever got to it.

Chef is fun just to see what kind of things you can convince people to eat (i.e. anything and everything) and then watching them die from the inside out.
