To some people, labor unions draw up thoughts of socialist/communist tendencies. Propaganda being commonly associated with dictatorships, fascist states, and iron curtain nations, combined with thoughts about those commie laborers = labor union propaganda. It's a completely nonsensical title I drew out of my rear end after reading about labor unions on the day I posted the thread.

I currently have a fairly standard M4 w/ two tone receiver, tan stock, tan rail covers, ect. URX rail and EOtech 553(?) replica. The default black 14.5" barrel is not sufficiently cool for my tastes.

I didn't know 1.5" more to my outer barrel would change anything?
It's more for looks...I have a 14.5" carbine, a tiny AK, and a behemoth M16A4 rifle. Something a tad larger than an M4 (recce rifle?) but not full sized is what I'm thinking of going for.
The question should be better phrased "come up with a reason why I shouldn't spend $65 for a barrel to make my gun look cool."

because that $65 could be spent on a AWS stealth drop-in fire control FET. :3
and nobody but you will know that you spent $65 on an outer barrel. Its not even noticeable like a nice RIS or "barrel extension" (suppressor).

also oem parts like that tend not to fit so well with the gun and require a bit of fitting to make work.

Alrighty, M1100's are pretty good off the bat.
What you'll need to do immediately is acquire o-rings for each and every one of your shells to help protect your extractor as long as possible.
I don't have the measurements on me, but you want an o-ring that will fit snugly on the base of the shell, right ahead of the lip. I know my o-ring's outer diameter is just barely small enough to fit inside the top of the shell.
If you've got the right size, they'll be a pain in the ass to install, but will be nice and snug. While they do wear as they're fired, (you'll notice chunks getting bit out of the rings by the extractor) they're very inexpensive to replace, like $3 for 10.
Now if you don't have one already, I recommend you make an account over at arnie's airsoft, so that way you can get in on the custom parts being made there. Just send Schaap a message or follow the M1014 thread in technical discussion->project suggestions. He's finalizing his design on his shell lifters, meaning they'll be available for sale soon, and we're working on redesigning the extractor.
You won't need them right off the bat, but you will need them sooner or later.
Okay, for the M1100 my personal recommendation is the M1100 Defender II, available at DenTrinity.
The compact size is super awesome, and the pistol grip gas cartridge is more convenient, as well as being available to buy if you want more than one. Shell capacity is limited, but you should be reloading a shell every time you fire regardless.
If you want the full size, be my guest, but they're a bit more inconvenient. I'll be happy to advise you on either.

On the subject of M1100s, aparrently all that's wrong with the one my brother has is the shell lifter is wrecked, and it fires fine.
As opposed to his M870 that has problems with the 'slidey gas seal thing' which he described as a tube fitting inside a larger tube with seals and stuff is completely worn out, but it lifts shells like a champ.
Any suggestions on how to fix either of these problems?

It seems that the defender and the folding stock are out of stock on that website but they do have the marushin m500 in stock what do you think of those?

Well it sounds like he may have entirely destroyed the chamber on his M870, good luck on that one. Those are not easy to find anywhere, he'd basically have to buy another one as a parts gun.
However, he could buy one of Schaap's custom shell lifters to fix up his M1100. His extractor is probably worn, but with o-rings and the new lifter, it should be just fine.

The original Maruzen folding stock is gone everywhere. You'd need to buy a real steel ATI folding stock for it, and mod it onto the Maruzen pistol grip. However, you don't really need the stock at all, there is zero recoil and its a spread based weapon where aiming and accuracy doesn't apply.
I don't have an interest in the Marushin shotguns at all.

Oh actually Floater, its possible that some lube/grease on the sliding tubes may fix the M870, and it might be possible to replace the o-rings in there. I've had no issues with my gas mechanism besides the gas line itself, so I try to leave it alone as much as possible.

Is there any way to get full size with a pistol grip? I don't really fancy the short barrel or small mag capacity.

If either of you guys need it, I do know of one store that does stock the extractor/shell door. I will not post it until someone needs it though, and only through PMs, I need to have a stock of these available for testing purposes.
I bought 2 already, so I'm comfortable with giving the site to another person or two who may need them.

No. that's been impossible for many years.
Only other way is to buy parts separately. I do know you can get a metal outer barrel in the full size, but the mag tube extension is very tough to find. Try to find a broken full size M1100/M870 that you can use for parts. There is a supreme amount of parts compatibility between the two. I can tell you off the top of my head just about any similar parts between the two.

Basically, the way the whole deal works is that Maruzen made 2 kinds of outer barrels and two sizes of mag tubes. Short and medium. Then for the full size stuff they made a barrel extension that just pops into the main outer barrel and a mag tube extension that screws onto the end of the mag tube. Regardless of outer barrels, all M870's use the same inner barrel, and all M1100's use the same inner barrel. Both barrels are different, but are the same length and inner dimension.
I can take pictures later in the evening to show you in better detail.
If you can fashion a proper mag tube spring, you can use any magazine tube size you want, and outer barrels are all swappable.

Also important, you can get a full size M1100 with the long barrel/mag tube if you want. Full stock M1100 has far more power than the full stock M870, due to differences in the design.

Oh and for the record, a lot of externals made for the CA870 by G&P and the like will fit the M870, and some will fit the M1100 too. Ask me first, but you can throw a lot of those things on there.

Yeah, the power upgrade is totally unneeded for M1100's.
The pistol grip will boost power on both M1100's and M870's, but its not that important for M1100's either.
I could sling out full load shells with a full stock M1100 on green gas without issue, you just have to do everything in your power to keep it running.

Yeah, its a custom one off being sold for 40 pounds. I'm asking if it'll fit on Maruzen shotguns to begin with, as I think it looks fairly menacing.
I'd buy one that's the same size as the outer if they existed.

Yeah, I only use them indoors. I plan on using them outdoors and stuff once it gets warmer, but I'll have to wait and see. I'll probably buy or create my own brasscatcher then.
As for now, I work by a rule that real soldiers use, you only shoot while stationary.
With a real rifle, even the slight movements from a controlled walk play hell with your accuracy at long range, but for my purposes, I just move and stop when I shoot to keep the shells in contained areas.
Also, team members and staff are more than happy to pick up shells for me while I hold down a corner. Lastly, I scan the area I'm in when I get shot to check for any shells, its not fun walking into an enemy guarded area to pick them up, people like to shoot you to be sure.

What's a cheap, preferably OD chest rig? Integrated mag pouches are a plus, as I'd carry 8-9 mags, and gear website links would be awesome.

My maruzen Mac 11 is pretty much fucked and i have no idea where to start trying to figure out how to restore it to some state of functionality, besides maybe changing the seals and stuff. If i remember correctly it has a hard time holding gas in the mags and has trouble firing, but i'd have to try it out to find out fully.
It's 1am here so i'm not going to try it out right now, but any suggestions on what else i could try to improve it's functionality in general?
Also, where could i get cheaper, modern magazines compatible with it? I found somewhere selling original Maruzen magazines, but they're 40 pounds a peice.
Double also, where the could i find a new stock/front sight? I got this off my oldest brother long ago and it's never had a front sight in all the time i've owned it, or a stock.

This thing is probably worthless in its current state so it'd likely be cheaper to fix it.
Plus, i don't really want an SMG too badly, so it's more of a case of 'it'd be cool to fix this' than 'i wish i had an smg to use for ~smooth cqb combat~'
Might end up carrying it as a third backup gun.

P. much all gas SMG mags are gonna be in the $40 range. But you should go over all the seals just on principle and then check the loading nozzle and bolt assembly.
You might have to shim the routers on the tops of the mags if the loading nozzle is worn where the gas is routed into the nozzle

The only thing in that list that isn't already being used in some form is the silencer, which is a simple thing to deal with if it becomes encumbering (quick detach is my friend). I run pretty light, weight isn't a huge concern.
