My friend paid the same for a Tikka T3 Super Varmint, two mags, barrel threading, A-Tec MAXIM and a Zeiss Classic Diavari+optilock mounts

How can you even make a 700 cost A$4550??

ps: remington needs shut up about "hurr durr cuts in barrel that do jack shit = add $250 to price"

That's probably a good idea... I generally don't like to buy guns from people I don't know, or people who aren't related to people I know. Because as careful as you can be you can't be 100% sure it won't come back to bite you.

Obviously you wouldn't buy it if the serial was filed off. Before hand, I generally ask for the serial number and look it up in the database to make sure it wasn't reported stolen.

Don't get so hostile. All I'm saying is that buying a pistol at a gun show when you're 18 is no different than meeting an individual for a private sale. He's 18, so he has to buy from a private seller.

Gun shows are usually cheaper than online or retail stores. Guns CAN be a bit pricey but you can get lucky. Ammo and other stuff is generally priced well for the buyer.

Who said the guy is shady? This is why you talk to the person on the phone first, look at the feedback that others have given them on the gun forum, and make sure they're law abiding citizens. If you have any suspicion what so ever then don't meet them.
