got some pretty real critiscm off someone today.
"your photos are a bit boring, they are just you sitting somewhere with a shallow DoF.
"They said i should make it more interesting and said i should be more like this other guys 365 who took a bed into a forest. Just made me think thats all. It's hard to mix it up sometimes.

Im not sure I can call this "creative photography" in good faith, but its obviously not deserving of a thread either, so w/e.
I took some not-so-good photos at MegaCon in Orlando on Saturday. I was hella tired from the 2 hours of sleep I got the night before, so my eye for composition wasnt awake.

I used my Canon XT with Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8 and 430EX II Speedlite with a softbox on it.

i see that you're new to this place. i think what you are looking for is understanding of the exposure triangleI don't know if this the right thread but I think this one comes closest to a general discussion/little questions. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So I have never before used any other camera than these cheap digitalcams with auto everthing.
Recently my mum got an Alpha 55. Out of boredom I took it and played a little with the settings in manual mode and took some pictures in my room and around the house.

Is there literature on when to use what setting? And maybe something helpfull in the direction of landscape photography.

the S mode on your camera controls the shutter speed, the A mode controls aperture, and M controls both. Otherwise the camera will determine settings. Also make sure you check your iso, on the pictures you posted it looks like it's at a high number. low numbers are good for crisper looking images.
also i like the window picture you posted, it has pretty nice composition for a beginner! if you need any help just ask, i'm always here to help

I did laundry today. I'm really torn on editing photos. If I do it, I'm making sure to stay as close to my original photo as possible, making small, subtle changes. All I really do is change the levels a little and I make sure to keep it at that. Y/N?

Also, nothing wrong with editing pictures. Most of the things you can do in photoshop, you can do it in a dark room.
