So my friends and i did some brainstorming, about what we would really enjoy in the editor (We know its still in beta):

    - Logic gates (Invert, Timers, etc)
    - Slanted walls, not panels, walls
    - Have aerial faith plates have an output aswell to trigger things
    - Custom signs (the ones at the start of rooms)
    - Defective turrets and old objects
    - The stationary portal gun

Anyone want to join me in my quest to make at least one map a day for an entire year? Big, small, dumb, whatever, just as long as it's even mildly fun or interesting.
One a week or one every two weeks or so would probably be better. There's always RL stuff or other hobbies that will make you reconsider course, and it gives you time to polish your map. Multipathing (like majan222), Easter Eggs, etc.
Speaking of Easter Eggs, I'm trying to so some hidden rooms with angled plates and stuff, but the symbols on the ground make the plates look way too suspicious. The ones that emerge when you link it to a trigger so far away the game doesn't draw a dotted line. Can this be fixed in this editor or the mighty Hammer creature I heard legends about?

So, I made a test chamber. I think it came out pretty good, but there's one major problem.
None of the lights seem to work, aside from the original observation room.
Scared me good when I booted up my map today. Rebuilding may solve the issue, but only once in a while. For me at some point it also caused purple/black checkers which I fixed with a gamecache verification.

Seriously it's so stupid how they limit you. I realize the more crap you have in your level the slower it will load but don't stop me from building it, just stop me from publishing it or put a warning on my maps workshop page.

I loved your maps but have one complaint. Invisible walls, just, no. Find a way to direct people without forcing them out of their immersion.

I did try to keep them down to a bare minimum to stop players trying to fall down bottomless pits, escape from the play area etc. But I understand your complaint. It is similar to the behind-the-scenes sections in Portal 2, you can't throw yourself off the walkways.

If you had any in mind in-particular I might be able to fix them.

Well, this game has fucked up my computer beyond repair. First it somehow deletes the fucking drivers, so i re install them, but then portal 2 randomly launches in the middle of install and it didn't let the goddamn process finish so now i have broken drivers that i cannot uninstall, i cannot install new ones on top and i cant do anything. What the fuck am i supposed to do now?

The one where you jump off the railing and the walls slam dunk you into the hole seems like one of the worst, though that could just be that was the first one so I think of it as the worst. Finding a way to get rid of all of them would be for the best. Even in the main game I can jump to my death if I'm stupid.

    Edited:

Now that I think of it instead of putting invisible walls just put a quicksave either directly before a potential death area or shortly before one. Bam problem solved.

    I made a test chamber
I had been messing around with the idea in my mind all day, unfortunately the restricted height limited me a little.

Basically, you do the entire test in a tractor beam.

Yes, you can exit it of course, but if you do you'll go hurtling down into the toxic water below
Or dodge a puzzle but who wants to do that.

Also it IS possible to screw yourself out of victory, pretty easily in fact (accidentally spilling the last cube into the water) but if you do that you'll find out about it soon enough since you die 5 seconds later.
I've also run into problems where it was possible for me to complete the puzzle in more than one way, so I just turned it into a feature. The only real bug you COULD have is that the turret may, during its frenzy after being knocked over, end up killing you anyway. Reaction times, man.

    Edited:

my only gripe with it at the moment is the lack of decoration of any kind.

I've toyed with the idea of using puzzle objects in places where they aren't needed, like a glass panel that simply acts as another portion of wall, constantly turned off tractor beams or (my personal favourite) a cleansing water dispenser pouring into a pool of toxic water.

I really hate puzzles that require you to die to know what to do.

Valve never did this and that should be a major design philosophy in all puzzles.

In all fairness you can see the entire level before you step on the faith plate, but I was rushing the concept rather than going for absolute perfection.

Right click in library view: properties->local files-> verify integrity of game cache.
