Templars did some pretty horrifying and pretty good things, but your opinion on them would help much.

I will list some history links about them:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Templar
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History...nights_Templar
    http://www.templarhistory.com/

Also, don't be such a fag and try to play the assassins creed series.
The first one should give you some more info on them.

    Post your opinions on them.

They were a knightly order who protected pilgrims in the Middle East, and later with time got into economics and politics. They gained a signifcant amount of power in the process, since religious organisations then tended to be powerful. (There are cases of monasteries murdering noblemen, and then annexing their estates.) The King of France simply decided to dissolve them one day because he was short on cash and had the power to do so. This process continued with many other groups for the next 3 centuries as the state assumed greater control over the church from the Pope and used the confiscated money for their own purposes.

    No conspiracies.

Shut up. Not only are you wrong, but you didn't even provide a valid argument against him.

I think it is likely that Assassin's Creed series is fiction (although it is based on real-life events/locations/etcetera.) I'm pretty sure that there are no conspiracies concerning the Templar's, at least ones that are real.

They were just a group. They did good things and bad things, just like American or Britain have done good things and bad things. Of course, America/Britain and much larger than the Templars, but still.

The history has been VERY violent. So I see no reason at all to look back into those ages where people's initial reactions and ideas were not questioned at all.

Like, upon someone stealing something, the initial punishment could be anything from dismembering a limb, hanging, torturing, depending what the old-timers initially thought as an appropriate punishment. And everybody agreed.

Little did you know that a simple hunter-gatherer was FORTY (40) times as likely to be killed (and robbed) than a modern human.

That sounds more like the Teutonic Order, also weren't the Knights Templar seen as controversial because they were willing to actually work with Muslims?

I wasn't planning on arguing with him.

I think this question is answered much in the same fashion as the question "Are the United States the Good guys, or the bad guys?" Depends on who you ask.

Depends on who you ask as well.

I really don't think that applies to this. Unless you're one of those people who believes the systematic murder of a group of people is a good thing.

They weren't good. They were pious but they were a militant organization and killed a lot of people.

Summary on the main 3 forces of the crusades.

The Templar started with good morals and ambition, but they let any riffraff in and it evolved into a bunch of hooligans ransacking Muslim areas.

The Assassins (Hashishin) were recruited at a young age, sometimes at birth. They were psychology trained with the use of cannabis (Hashish, thus Cannabis\users of) to carry out any order even in the face of certain death. They assassinated many VIPs. (List) However they never got along with the main army led by Saladin. Their leader was Rashid ad-Din Sinnan, AKA the old man on the mountain as in Assassins Creed I.

Saladin's Army never really stepped out of line that much. They conquered Jerusalem and held it until the end of the crusades. However, they did let in Christian pilgrims to practice their religion without oppressing them officially. (Angry citizens may have tried to harm them but were treated as criminals) They also have been rumored to have captured the "True Cross of Jesus", however it is now lost in time.

I happen to love this part of history, it's really cool to learn about.

However since good and bad are limited to ones morals and perception there is no true good or bad sides.
