fivefingers are the gayest looking fucking things ever
Yes they are better for lifting and running in, but I wouldn't be seen fucking dead wearing them.
ew
Monkeyfeet.
I run in them when barefoot is out of the question, and yeah they look weird but I've learned to ignore people's stares![]()
They've done wonders for my joints and whatnot (I've injured my ankles and knees heavily from playing football) since you work a lot of stabilizer muscles while running in them. They're also good for lifting, since a lot of gyms force you to wear shoes and they let you emulate being barefoot while abiding by that rule.
I found they're good for martial arts as well, at least when it comes down to shadowboxing/practicing advanced kicks. A lot of surfaces aren't too great for being barefoot on, especially when you're jumping, spinning, and rotating on planted feet a lot. These give your feet that added protection without messing up your technique or adding too much unnecessary weight.
I have a pair of these that i wear on a regular basis, and the are really awesome to wear and run in. They do invite some staring and conversations, but overall it is worth it in my experience based on how nice it is to wear a minimalist shoe.
I have a pair, and I absolutely love them. I only wear them when I'm running though, because I wouldn't walk around anywhere in them if I had no reason.
I'd love a pair for running and skimboarding, but they are too expensive and they don't do my size.
seen a couple of people with them, would love to invest in to a pair if i took more in to running and shit
They're really popular at my university for some reason.
Your university must be great. Here everyone either wears those stupid hipster plimsolls or those thong sandals.
I really wish I could get a pair in my size and that they didn't cost a ridiculous amount. I mean even if they are awesome, they aren't so complex and costly to produce that a pair of KSO's should cost £90...
I wear these like a boss everyday to work. Fuck opinions, I run like a champ.
I've got a pair for Parkour.
They're really really great for parkour. You really get to feel everything.
The downsides? You feel everything. When you screw up a landing, you can easily tell.
I don't really see that as a downside, considering you definitely feel it whenever you perform a landing wrong. Helps you work out what you're doing wrong and correct it, meaning you're less likely to get seriously hurt in the future.
i reckon you'd get stabbed if you wore them round here.
That's what I meant.
You really learn to hone and refine your technique. The problem is that you have to feel what you're doing wrong first, and that's usually not pleasant when dealing with your feet.
But they're fucking awesome. Pricey, but awesome.
All I wanna say is that I have Pumas that are somehow lighter than these
I don't know how that is possible but it is.
these are like 20 bucks on amazon and they work the exact same way, and look 400x less stupid
designed for martial arts but lifting in them is awesome
What does it matter what you wear for shoes while lifting? I would thinking it only matters for running.
It helps with foot support and natural balance I think, also feels good
So, you don't normally have foot support and natural balance with the feet you were born with?
As for lifting - shoeless.
Edited:
How do they work the same way when evidently they visually are worlds-apart?
That's like saying a vagina and a penis are the same way, because they both, in the end-result, produce fun.
The feiyue's are pretty much as good as the five fingers. They have a thin, completely flexible grippy sole.
The only significant practical difference is the five fingers separation of the toes, which to be honest isn't that big a deal.
That exact difference is the only difference. Anytime you use a flat shoe, you will heel strike and disperse your energy incorrectly.
Not necessarily. You can forefoot run in flat shoes with thin soles. Heel cushioning is the real villain.
Actually, the toes being slightly spread increases your stability when running on uneven surfaces. Definitely helps when doing parkour.
I have worn skate shoes and tennis shoes exclusively for about 10 years now, which both have flat soles, and I have always had a forefoot strike. I have never had a heel strike.
A heel strike is not caused by a flat soled shoe, it is caused by the individual having a shitty running style, most likely due to being used to wearing running shoes with a stupid soft wedge under the heel which allows them to heel strike without it hurting.
If you never used the padded running shoes and started running in flat soled shoes, then that padding under the heel is never there and you should develop a running style which is more efficient at absorbing the shock (i.e. forefoot strike), just as when you run barefoot or use something like fivefingers.
This statement could not be more false.
Yeah I think you can actually tell when people run like that because you can hear their heels slam the fucking ground. You're suppose to stay on your toes.
A lot of the traceurs I train with use Feiyue's. They're really great, and commonly used for Parkour.
I'm thinking of getting a pair once my shoes explode.
Lol. So many people are so insecure when it comes to feet.
In the Bay Area here in California they are very popular.
I wear them, my friends wear them,
and many sports going people use them as mentioned before; skim-boarding.
It's running unhindered, if you get the right size.
A few years back when they first came out, you could get them for £50 (max) shipped from the states, not only that, but back then customs were rarely on the ball so the likelihood of you getting charged was pretty low.
Since they got popular though, well... price hike. I have to say though, given the choice I will ALWAYS take shoes with vibram rubber on the sole. Sure it wears faster but it's always ridiculously grippy.
I really like my vibrams. I am pretty flat footed. So its hard for me to run at all. But it's much easier with these.
Generally I would agree that running barefoot or with five fingers is better, but if you are flat footed, surely running without shoes that support your foot into an arch is just asking for trouble, because there is very little natural shock absorbtion in your feet if you are flat footed...
Who gives a fuck
Five fingers are gay as shit, they are bad and you should all feel bad for posting in this thread
Or you could just, you know, not give a shit what people think about you wearing them, fuck whoever sees someone wearing them and thinking they look dumb.
Crocs.
Neck beard spotted
"fuck what other people think!!! Having a basic sense of fashion is so mainstream!!! :("
Unless you routinely run down the street in a pink leotard or your name is lady gaga, you probably shouldn't use that argument hth
Edited:
This thread is terrible and is taking away space on threads that could be used on totally non-gay stuff like getting super sweaty from lifting heavy stuff then slapping your half naked bros on the ass and exchanging chest to chest bumps in a display of masculinity
It's a matter of opinion, anyhow, this thread should be closed.
Yeah people are discussing opinions and disagreeing close the thread omg
