I'm using a G5 right now. The drivers are absolutely terrible and crash to default whenever I try to change the sensitivity ingame. I tried their support, but they just tell me to do the things that I have already done. It's essentially unfixable and the only way that I'm going to get something new soon. My desk is pretty close to the keyboard tray, so I wouldn't want the mouse to be any taller. Requirements for the mouse include: Ingame adjustable DPI, back and forward buttons (More if possible) and has drivers that aren't as bad as the G5's. I would rather avoid Logitech on mice entirely after this, because I bet the problem will carry over because of the similar drivers.
Plenty of great mice to choose from when a person finally realizes that Logitech isn't the end-all like so many in FP who always rave about the MX518/G400/G5/G500/etc. (not saying you were one of these people, but FP does tend to have them.

Things to consider when looking for a new mouse would be your grip type and how badly you need side-buttons for gaming (there are way too many people who think they need those side-buttons so badly when in reality they could easily use a keyboard key in the game. Yeah going forward/backward in a browser can be useful, but you can use the Smooth Gestures app for Chrome if you want that functionality without sidebuttons). After you know those things, just pick from the top-selected mice that we've been going over for 6 pages, those generally being the WMO, IMO 1.1, IME 3.0, Abyssus, Deathadder, and G400 (yeah I poked fun at Logitech but the G400 is the best mouse they offer in my opinion, although I don't like the ergonomics).

I went from a G5 to a 3.5G deathadder. The deathadder is better in every way, especially the sensor and how responsive it feels. There's no in-game adjustable dpi, but you can assign a button to 'on-the-fly sensitivity' which should accomplish the same thing. You'll have to give up the one of the buttons though.....

only thing I'm missing from g5 to da is on the fly dpi switching

forced to use 450 dpi in everything because there's no way I'm using anything higher for desktop use

I changed to the g700 personally, its nice to have extra keyboard room, and it's wider and smoother IMHO, but that's just me

macro's are very very useful, I suggest getting a speed adjustable mouse with macros, Logitech is best imo

Sidewinder X8 MMB is broken and the replacement warranty has expired :( can anyone recommend me a new mouse for gaming? I'm in the UK and I'd like to spend around 30 as I'm pretty tight for money, can use eBay as well. I'd like it to have a couple of side buttons as well if that's possible as that's what I'm used to. Cheers!

Have a look at the Razer Deathadder,Logitech Mx518 or Steelseries Kana. I think there is a couple new version of the Mx518 such as the g400 or something close.

I got the Sharkoon Black Fireglider.

Its great, only 20 ish. Has a dedicated macro button, which you can make custom macros with on the software that comes with it, it has variable dpi from 600 to 3600, and the 2 side buttons. I think its great for the price.

If you really want side-buttons, I'd recommend the Razer Deathadder, Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, or the Logitech G400 (I'd pick Deathadder or IME 3.0 over the G400 though).

If you decide that you can go without side-buttons, I'd recommend the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical or the Razer Abyssus. If you go for Abyssus though, you need to make sure you have the right mousepad to avoid jittering.

I looked at the Corsair M90 at Frys today. What do you guys think of it? I like how the extra buttons are set up, but I'm not sure if I could find a use for all of them. I feel like I could use more than my G5, but not as much as it has.

Would questions about mouse mats go in here or not?

If they do, what would you guys recommend for a medium sided gaming surface, my old facepunch mouse mat is going all grimy on me.

There is no upgrade from the deathadder IMO. Buy another one or if you are sick of it maybe a g400.

I need a new mouse, I currently have a sidewinder x8 and I LOVE it but I hate the fucking battery dying all the time and the cord falls off sometimes which is a pain in the ass. So I want a new mouse and I'm not getting anything wireless this time, I would like side buttons and up to 4000 DPI just like the X8 but I have no idea what to get. My budget is $100, Also DPI on the fly buttons would be nice along with side buttons.

    Edited:

Also another reason for not wanting wireless is this, LAN parties. Shit can get jacked REALLY easily at LAN Parties, especially public ones like Quakecon.

I've always been of the opinion that the RAT series is gimmicky crap but I've never used one, I just think they look like shit.
G700 has about the same features as the G500 with the exception of being wired or wireless. Basically it has a battery and a plug in it so you can choose if you wanna roll wireless or wired.
IMHO the G700 is a massive gimmick and I'd stay away from it. G500 has all the features you requested, has a great puclic opinion and is pretty cheap.
Get the G500, you won't be sorry.

G500 has had tracking issues depending on what batch you got.
I have a RAT3, a Deathadder and a G500 (along various other crap ones) and I prefer the RAT3 as I tend to use a fingertip grip for FPS games.

    Edited:

Both G500 and DA are too heavy to use effectively in fingertip grip.

It isn't gimmicky at all and the wireless is A grade not a problem at all. Only thing is it's a bit small for my hand but so is the g500. I have big hands.

People complaining about the tracking issues of the g500 need to shut up, as far as I'm aware that was fixed a long time ago. I can't speak for the sensei since I haven't ever used one but I can speak for the G500 and it's amazing. Not saying the sensei isn't amazing but if they both meet your requirements then get the cheaper one/the one you think looks best.

G500 has bad built quality on top of sensor not being great on cloth. I think it's much wiser to get a G400 than a G500. I don't know much about the sensei but if it has the same sensor as the xai it won't be great on cloth either.

How is the build quality bad and how does it not work well on cloth?

I've had two. The first one got a loose sensor after a few hours and it rattles like a box of chocolates. Second one worked longer but it still felt like a rattling brick. Even though I always liked a heavy mouse. The deathadder and xai are lighter but just feel much more solid.

I have the qck too. If you haven't tried other mice you will probably not notice that the g500 has acceleration and just isn't very precise on the qck. Compared to the deathadder though it's easy to notice the g500 is inferior.

Well I'd recommend the deathadder but you wanted on the fly dpi buttons. The DA doesn't have those. But you could assign for instance middle mouse wheel button to on the fly sensitivity switching. Both the g500 and da are good for big hands, I got pretty big hands too. Wouldn't get the sensei if you want a mouse for big hands.
If you don't mind the issues I mentioned about the g500 above go ahead and get one, many people seem happy with it but I would never recommend one. You could also check some reviews about the g400, I bet it's better than the g500.

I set up a poll in H&S, I'll give it 8 days and facepunch will basically choose for me.
