    http://blog.pulsefeed.com/alpha1/

So Pulsefeed has been my spare-time project for the last few months; it's finally somewhat-ready, and so I've put up a public Alpha. If you've got a moment I'd appreciate you checking it out and giving any feedback you may have.

To do so just login @ http://pulsefeed.com/login and you'll be directed to enter an invite code; on the enter code page there's a list of current codes (the invite system is really only there in-case the server [which is only my little personal server currently] gets overloaded, I've not done much stress-testing on the app).

    Cheers!

When I try to login with Facebook it first redirects me to Facebook ( which what is expected ) but then when I authorize your app I get redirected back and am still not logged in.

Awful bug on my part there, it should be fixed (at least, if the facebook login fails it will give the right message).

You can add any RSS feed @ http://pulsefeed.com/sources/add, and browse sources @ http://pulsefeed.com/sources

Any RSS feed will work (or should), typing a straight blog address link should also work assuming they have the feed linked in their headers.

Yeah I noticed that when it popped up on my news stream too; I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the page being loaded in the frame (some kind of anti-frame code), when loading the article directly (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2...windows-8.aspx) it works.

I'll implement a timer on the load div which will link to the article directly for when this happens.

What's the link to the article? Unfortunately pages with javascript can't be scraped (we use the readability scraper on pages without full-content RSS feeds to grab the summary)

Unfortunately there's no real fix to this, I'll see what I can do though.

I would suggest displaying the original site's name more prominently in the feed page. Right now it's pretty hard to tell because there's just an icon at the bottom of the block and most of the times it's hard to tell what it represents.

can't you just do some ajax requests? because whenever I press like it refreshes. That's annoying.

I'm afraid you'll have to just try again; I'm not sure why this happens; it seems as if it's something within the Facebook SDK (I can't seem to re-create the problem).

Originally it was like this; but with the 3-column layout it's harder to find enough width to fit them in; bear in mind there is a 3rd Collect button hidden in the bottom too.

As for the favicons, I should soon have them all working, google's favicon thing is rubbish, and I've built my own which uses the <link> tag as well as /favicon.ico to locate the favicons.

Of course that's the long-term plan, it's an Alpha for a reason :)

Another bug with the Facebook login, it seems you are just sending the user back in history. So if I click on the login link from your OP, and then on the Facebook Login link, I get send back to this thread on facepunch.

    Edited:

I also get a "We could not validate your login" error, something I did wrong?

Whoops, the login page sets where you end up after logging in, it's currently only set to the referrer, will fix.

I also get a "We could not validate your login" error, something I did wrong?
This I'm really not sure about, I've managed to login on two facebook accounts without issue (both re-logging in and registering fresh); does it happen every time you try to login?

    Edited:

It *might* be fixed now, I've updated FD-Core with a more 'robust' (ie it follows the examples) facebook login; unfortunately I can't really test as it's working for me...

Looks really nice! I might actually start using it instead of going to individual sites. Great work, very inituitive (seems familliar to users of most social networks (Facebook/Twitter) etc. Be interesting to see how far it goes.

:D That's the problem I was planning to solve, was getting sick of opening 200 tabs for each blog I read, so hopefully Pulsefeed slaps them all together.

I know it'd be hard, but maybe try to do a 'reader' type thing instead of loading the whole web page. (Like on iOS) - That'd be cool.

I assume it still came up with "we could not validate your login" or similar? I'm struggling to locate the error, I pushed forward the logging on FD-Core (which powers the site), but nothings appeared. The users are being created, but the login stage doesn't work; I'll keep looking for the problem.

Ah yes, originally this is how I was doing it (either using the feeds content or, if that wasn't full, readability to 'scrape' the content).

The only problem with this is 1. it sometimes breaks and fails to extract the right bit or all of the content and 2. I'm pretty certain this would result in copyright issues; in Safari's reader the content-ripping is done clientside, so it doesn't matter, but doing it server side might piss off a lot of publishers.

However, the eventual plan (if pulsefeed does grow), is to implement a way for publishers to set up hidden <divs>/similar in their content, which pulsefeed will read and display 'inline', without the frame.

I was so so so so hoping this would be an app that would combine streams from Twitter/Google Plus/Facebook for me in one place.

Alas it was not...just another feed reader.

Nicely done, but I've got a feed reader already :/

It is for now :/ The eventual plan is to link with a users facebook stream + twitter streams, and highlight the best content.

I've just pushed a major update, which includes much of the javascript aspect, allowing ajax-based liking/etc.

Yeah, fix coming tomorrow, unfortunately will result in another database cleanout.

Kind of, currently is, but the plan is to better integrate articles (and possibly all stories) from fb/twitter (and more) into the streams (so where an article from your feeds and twitter came up, it would be rated higher than articles with only one 'reference' [feed/twitter/facebook].

Is that IE9? I haven't actually looked at the site in IE of any version yet, it is on the neverending to-do list though :)
