Which part? Since Biowares been down the drain since Mass effect launched. The only real exception is Origins, but that was in development for a long time.

If it was a random merc or something, I'd be pretty pissed. Launch day DLC is a lame tactic, and a squadmate is really shitty.
But it's not some random squadmate. It's a goddamn PROTHEAN. That seems like a goddamn massive important part of Mass Effect. BUT, it's restricted until you pay up. That's bullshit.

So the Protheans look like Collectors now? That's really annoying, the original Prothean designs from ME1 (statues found all around Ilos, the last planet you go to) were much better.

I'm not going to make a decision until release when we actually learn how important this character is
who knows, maybe the protheans are still included in the game itself, with enough prothean-based plot to make me happy. This character could really just end up being a way to get one of the protheans on the normandy, plus a little cool mission along the side, and nothing more
but maybe it is the only live prothean in the game, which would be complete bullshit
I'll just wait until I know more

Well, from the way he is described, he has apparently been in stasis since the previous Reaper attack. There are a number of different ways it could be handled. He could be the sole survivor, he could an early release from some failsafe program designed to save their species.

Wait whoa hold the fucking phone, how does he know about other alien races? He mentions a Krogan (most likely Wrex), Salarian and Asari, but I highly doubt the Krogan existed during his reaper cycle. Has he been around for a long time or does he just spontaneously have knowledge of the races.

The fact they're sticking a live Prothean (Which is a HUUUUUUGE part of the story) in some side DLC is a dead give-away about how good the game is going to be, if you ask me.

I liked it better when the Protheans were this distant mysterious race of hyper advanced aliens. I liked it when they were MYSTERIOUS AND EXTINCT! Now they just fucked it all up.

Take a look at the clarification on the forums
- “From Ashes” includes the Prothean squad mate, an adventure on Eden Prime, a new weapon, and an alternate appearance for every squad mate. Note that these alternate appearances are in addition to the ones already advertised in the CE.
- The Collectors Edition has been advertised from the beginning as containing a bonus character/mission, but we were not at liberty to provide the details. The Prothean is optional content that is certainly designed to appeal to long-time fans, which is why he is part of the CE offering (the version many fans would be likely to purchase). Mass Effect 3 is a complete – and a huge game - right out of the box.
- The content in “From Ashes” was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification.
- The Collectors Edition has been sold out in most places for some time now, and is becoming very hard to find (many players prefer not to purchase the digital version). As such, we wanted to make this content available so that SE buyers could also incorporate the Prothean into their game.
We’ll be releasing someimages and video about this pack in the coming days.

So by the fact that it was created long after the game went into certification, I'm assuming the actual character has no effect on the story? (Outside of the actual mission the character comes from)
I'm guessing probably so, seeing as how that's Bioware's newer method of storytelling, introduce a load of stuff that is hardly touched on later on. Joy

I haven't bought (and not planning to buy either) BF3 because of EA bullshit and I guess ME3 is going to share the same fate. They don't deserve the money.
EDIT: Actually the DLC itself is Bioware's fault, leaving such a huge story thing for some petty DLC. Disquisting. Shows us how much they care about the real story compared to all the gay sex. Fuck Bioware and fuck EA.

Holy shit, a prothean, that's a pretty big fucking deal story wise but nope, it is going to be some subplot you have to PAY EXTRA for.
Also his design is horrible, he looks like a collector, and while collectors are really fucked up protheans, protheans didn't look like them originally. Also why the fuck does he have a Jamaican accent? I always saw them as very serious beings, not Jamaicans in space. The Prothean message in the first game didn't even sound Jamaican.
