If beauty is a value as important as truth, and the level of good / bad music is based on that, then there IS such a thing as bad music, which can be objectively measured.

You're like the twenty billionth person to say durrhurr music subjective without thinking about anything.

People can like whatever music they like: likes and dislikes are subjective, but there is music theory, and there is a reason why we have that.
Music theory is the technical side. It may be more technical or less technical, but there's a difference between that and the music being bad.

    You cannot effectively judge art.

    Edited:

So insulting garbage manufactured garbage pop music isn't cool? Sounds like you're a little bit dumb imho!.
Oh god one of you people.

Never heard of them. What's a good song to recommend? Also, I'm glad to see some Monuments love.
Their new album isn't out yet. They've only released a teaser and a music video thus far. The song for the music video is called "Grace." The teaser video is good too.

    Here we go.

Not really djenty, but the song changes up a lot and it's got some really good riffs and groovy spots

That album gets better the further in you listen in my opinion. I think they really improved in song-writing on In Dreams though. And you can't deny that the groove factor on My Frailty is sick as shit.

Lots of the riffs off of In Dreams have a meshuggah vibe to them.

    Hey guys.

    I don't know what's going on here.

    But have some Uneven Structure.

Because nothing's as cool as atmospheric djent.

I'm glad he chose Neurodrive. Antares as a whole was fairly disappointing to me, after Slave Design, with the exceptions of Neurodrive, Orbital, and 12 Megatons Gravity. Every other song on that album is fairly bleh for me.

Don't get me started on The Pulse of Awakening, though. It's a good album, but I just don't much care for it - they furthered the path they went down on Antares, which I didn't really agree with. I'm hoping their new album starts to pull back toward Slave Design. Not holding my breath, though.

I saw the last 20 minutes or so of them.
They are quite seriously insane. The guitarist whacked his guitar into the PA while playing, then jumped on top of it and did a roll back onto the stage, completely fucking up his nose in the process. The bottom half of his face had blood all over it by the end of the show.
Also the singer disassembled the drum kit while the drummer was playing...

yeah I saw them with mastodon and red fang back in november and I wonder how they don't get charged with assault after some of their shows

my friends were like 'hey we should stand up front on the rail' and I was like 'no'

at one point one of the guitarists was swinging his guitar at the crowd and making contact lmao

dillinger is my fav band and the greatest live performance there is. I genuinely feel bad for the people who can't appreciate them/think they're just noise. whenever they release their new album or EP or whatever and start touring the US again I'm seeing them live for sure. hopefully in a basement with little to no security.

Yeah the security were a real killjoy at their performance. The singer kept trying to crowd surf and the bastards wouldn't let him.
They are a really awesome band, and their stage presence and live playing is some of the best I've seen.

I stumbled across a little prog metal / hardcore-y band on Ultimate Guitar forums by accident.

They gave away their EP for free for a while, but its on iTunes now.

    Prophets: Three Dog

    Agressor

    Digits

I really dig the sound they've got going.

Also, Structures, Volumes, AAL, Periphery are awesome.

I'm just getting into the genre; and also if you haven't listened to Exoplanet by The Contortionist, you should, it's fucking brilliant.

    Here we go.
This is fucking legit. I listened to Grace too. Instant fan.

    Edited:

I'm sorry I enjoy music that's a little bit beyond "oh hey lets tune our guitars down two steps and then play in pentatonic minor and harmonic minor that's never been done. Yay and we can slap some horrible vocals over top too to get some main stream appeal"

But you know, simple brains like simple music I guess?
I also feel the need to point out that this is one of the most painful things I've read on this forum.

I see some bands missing in this topic! I'm a huge fan of prog metal, therefore BTBAM

    Also, math rock woot!

Not for everyone but I really enjoy them.

    Djent!

And obviously animals as leaders but they have already been mentioned, seeing Tosin live is AMAZING!

    Some more prog metal.

    Holy Sweeps.

Speaking of sweeps... a bit outside the genres mentioned on the thread however still amazingly awesome.

I think thats enough for now.
