compiled the props but those light seams are killing meee
edit
nevermind, thanks MSAA!
Aren't the light seams from AA?
Kinda reminds me of Rage, not sure why
looks nice, but the proportions look off, like each floor is as high as the door.
You're right. I'll fix that right away.
yes but if i disable AA it will look like poop
Sadly, this is true.
More shit:
I'm done for the night. Will continue tomorrow.
whoa, how did you get those soft shadows? looks incredible
Probably a small amount of sun spread.
less than an hours worth of goofing off.
I plan to redo the design a bit and make it more of the modern style.
(I plan to keep this too)
Water glass?
Refracting glass :V Can't seem to get the desired effect I'm looking for. The glass is too smooth for my taste. The other green glass was good. It just did not fit my style. I would make my own normals, but I don't have photoshop and Gimp requires you to install all this Linux Crap. :V
Edited:
Those don't look like dev textures :V
they are dev textures
dev_reflectivity_xb
Pink and black?
Um the X means a variable....
I know that. There is NOT a black dev texture or pink no matter what the reflectivity # was
There's no pink in his screenshot, it's from the lighting.
The Facepunch Mapping Contest: Sexy Lighting
Seriously, how do all of you make such awesome lighting like that? Especially Jukka's, I'm such a sucker when it comes to that kind of architecture, especially with games like Mirror's Edge.
I'm liking the fact that it seems there's a lot of activeness in this contest, unlike the previous one, which ended with only one final entry. Good luck everyone!
I love dev textures and really wanted to enter this... but I am horrible with lighting (especially compared to some of the users here.)
It just takes practice. That's all.
Custom Skyboxes.
Yay or Nay?
That's fine.
I don't think it would be a problem at all.
Okay, how about the White/light textures?
Since they're pretty much just white textures.
Day 2:
![]()
Turns out the doorway on the shop was too low, so i turned it into a vent instead.
Because a couple of people have commented on my bridge, here it is with new lighting and a small amount of work on lightmaps:

I'm not even going to bother quoting the OP or the amount of people that have asked questions similar to this. Read the OP, it explains the answer.
oh, COME, ON!
i cant rate enough kings and pallets in this thread.
and with all these gold member pros around, we are getting obliterated.
I'm so in, Starting today...
i'm
in
Oh good god...
Bleh, Need to dive into more art books and see what works.
Tips from ME yay
-To get the fancy lighting these guys had, you set the lightmaps down to 4 or so, and have the sun come in at an angle that is NOT perpendicular to the geometry. It will add a nice lighting effect. Also, to cast interesting shadows, you would have complicated geometry to let some light get through but allow a lot of it to be blocked.
-Space: A good way to catch interest, is to make the area interesting. Depending on how and where you place it. a regular block can make a room seem interesting. You need to have a balance. Not too full, but not too empty.
-Floors are all right left empty, but the walls need clutter on them to make them interesting. If you take a look at both of those guy's screenshots, the floors are somewhat barren while the walls are cluttered.
-color: Color can set the mood of the place.
Blue: makes the area feel ominous
Red: makes the area feel under attack/ red alert.
Green: a calming color if used right. (trees)
Yellow: A calm color.
Orange: can emphasize pretty and calmness or destruction.
-Shading: A good way to lead the eye to something.
-You can use shading by making something of importance, say put it under a white light and everything else is dark, emphasized in the map or level
Hope these help :) (Now I need to follow them)
Why I'm still not on the contestant list?
So the rest of us will have a chance to win :3
sign me up for sure. (Half of my maps never get any farther than dev textures)
Same, it's like the perfect opportunity to half finish a map, and actually be finished...
One of a few things I am working on, I'd also like a nice sexy as fuck glass texture if anybody can recommend one?
