I need a recommendation for a nice media centre distro with a large UI to be used from a distance.
Currently my dad has windows 7 installed on his media PC which as you all know has shit resolution independence and doesn't scale well at all.
So, if possible I would need this distro to be able to handle the following.

    Webkit browser with Flash Player.
A torrent client of some description.
VLC or a comparable media player.
    freesat tuner card drivers.
And above all, an attractive, large UI which can easily be read from a distance.

I can't think of a distro in particular that does that out of the box. One thing you could do is install something like debian or ubuntu or some other distro and then install XBMC or Boxxy on top of it. That way, you have a nice media viewer thingamajig and a desktop environment that can do what you need.

As for you tuner card, IDK if it's supported.

I have XBMC installed on my old xbox, its a nice front end.
It sits nicely ontop of windows too, which is good.
I'll have a look around for my freesat drivers for linux, they are utter shit on windows, it doesnt even work with media center.
In the end we might end up ditching the bulky pc and use a raspberry pi when it arrives. it has xmbc available.

Sabayon comes with XMBC for Media Center setups per default, but I can't recall a DM or WM that does exactly what you mentioned, except maybe Ubuntu TV.

I've fired up a Mint live CD on his media PC.
MythTV is doing a channel scan so it seems to be working okay.
Apparently XBMC can use that as a backend so its going to turn out fine.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

GeeXboX looks like a good distro. It's a fully fledged distro with XBMC.
    http://www.geexbox.org/

GeeXboX is a free and Open Source Media-Center purposed Linux distribution for embedded devices and desktop computers. GeeXboX is not an application, it’s a full-featured OS, that one can boot as a LiveCD, from a USB key, an SD/MMC card or install on its regular HDD. The GeeXboX distribution is lightweight and designed for one single goal: embed all major multimedia applications as to turn your computer into an HTPC. GeeXboX runs on x86, PowerPC and ARM devices.
