I don't want to flood the urbex thread with more than one thread so I dedicated this thread to my own amateur ventures, I hope you find them interesting.

1. Derelict Apartment Building

This apartment building was a lucky find, it has been marked for demolition recently and has not been touched by vandals. I was lucky to stumble across this, and I have quite a few friends to thank for that. It was rather early in the morning when we had entered, it's only been derelict for around 3 years, but time and weather has taken a decent toll on the building. This was also my first time Urbexing, I enjoyed taking these photos a lot, and I hope you will too.

2. Barrhaven Hotel

This is something I've been wanting to take pictures of for a while. Since this location is publicly available, here's the location. The building has been left abandoned for around 30 years, how it survived demolition while neighboring houses have popped up is a mystery to me.

Some of those pictures sort of creeped me out.

Btw, that fith picture, what exactly was the otter used for? Did it hold anything?

I'm not entirely sure, his tail was broken off and that flat peice on his abdomen might have been a coaster.

Also I found lots of floppy disks lying around, windows 95, powerpoint 2k, wordperfect, and a handful of optical disks labeled in russian. There was also an address book / journal, but it was blank. I also found a really ornate coaster, looked brand new.

Wow, those finds seemed pretty interesting. It must be great that the Barrhaven hotel is still there.

It would be interesting if a government could build a hotel and not use it, and let it rot so we can see the decaying process of a neglected building.

3. Scorched Apartment

This building has been abandoned for approximately 10 years, it was vacated shortly after a house fire took place on one of the top floors of the building, it was a sad sight, very eerie. This building has been marked for demolition and is also labeled a contaminated site. It was a very enlightening experience and had a lot of photo opportunities.

4. Sewage Treatment Plant

I don't have very much history for this building, there wasn't very much left behind.. It's marked as a contaminated site for metalloids and biological waste (no shit). It was a long hike to get to, and was certainly worth the trip. Funnily enough it didn't smell as bad as I had imagined, was certainly a relief. The plant is located off the beaten path of a well known trail in the west end of Ottawa. I'd say it's the largest compound I've been in thus far; as exciting as it was I feel the need to find bigger and harder to reach spots. This is the largest one I'll be visiting in a long time due to the limited number of spots in my province. This place was filled with grafitti, which I do not condone or encourage, some were interesting but I try and avoid making them the focal point of my shots.

My first stop was a room filled with pipes between two pumping stations.






I tried to layer in some hdr for this picture, I think it worked rather well, as it stopped the light from the windows from becoming overexposed.


Draining canals, warning signs posted for corrosive fluid, yuck.

Thread's running dry, I haven't been doing a lot of explores with an abundance of photo ops, but I've taken a few decent shots from some nearby farmlands.




Two weeks from now I'll be doing a group explore at a closed up correctional center, very excited for that.
