I think he meant the ammo types like Cryo, Disrupter, Incendiary, and Warp.
I looked through the files and all I could find was the mesh for what flashes along the barrel when you just throw up the ammo type, I couldn't find a model for the little shield with the ammo type on it so it must be done through a sprite.

Indeed. If you look back in the game, the Claymore is only ever used by a krogan (unless you give it to a squadmate), and even then it looks small. So, it's actually like that in-game. It didn't get down-sized.

The claymore is REALLY small for some reason, it's apparently smaller in ME3 than in ME2, but i've never used it myself so i don't know.

I suggest the prop resizer tool. it's pretty helpful, and also a MASSIVE help when using the weapon mods.

The claymore is as to-scale as it gets in me3, something to do with the kinetic dampening systems getting rehauled so non-krogan people can fire it(though I don't see how it got downscaled so much).
Though you're (understandably)wrong about only krogan squad and shepard using it, pony avatar, a couple asari mercs in ME2 used the claymore, and the turian on jack's prison ship.
