I open Garry's Mod and it says all that 'Preparing to launch Garry's Mod' and it goes to the loading screen, then all of the sudden it just closes with no errors at all. I'm currently running Windows 7 64bit.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I am experiencing a similar problem...but it seems to be a steam problem maybe? It works fine in singleplayer, but I enter my (linux if it matters) server and after a few seconds the game just quits with no error... here is what it says on the server's console
STEAMAUTH: Client [GME] TweaK received failure code 6
Dropped [GME] TweaK from server (Client left game (Steam auth ticket has been canceled))
I have tried restarting steam... validating/defragging game files... even happens on a clean install of gmod. :( any suggestions?

edit: also running windows 7 64bit

Same happening to me and most of my players, Linux server too.

I also got this in steamapps/username/garrysmod (might've been garrysmod/garrysmod, can't remember), not the usual crash dump location and dumps.garrysmod.com says it's not a valid dump file.

Me and someone I know are having this problem but only on TTT. We can join a RP server just fine.
    I'm on XP 64-bit and he's on 7 64-bit.
We also get no error. It just closes.

I'm receiving this as well, though no dump file is being written. Help would be appreciated.

I get dropped as soon as I load the game as well. Sure as fuck not appreciating the immediate "lol u cheat" response, but at least I'm not the only one who's been getting hit by this. Wonder what got messed up this time around...

What addons do you have installed? Does it work without them? Can you connect to any servers?

As of right now it seems to purely be a multiplayer problem. As well, both Lazer and I have the same addons and we have not changed or added anything to them in a couple of weeks. The only thing thus far that has changed was your update earlier yesterday, on the 24th. As it was an update for macs, I have no idea how it could have changed anything for us, as we all are running 64bit windows systems.

E: some more clarification, This happens on all multiplayer servers I've connected to, which as of now is about ~20 servers.

I can't even get to the menu. I run the application, it does the "Launching Garry's Mod", the loading screen comes up, and after a few seconds, it closes without any error.

    64 bit windows here, too.

Just did a test with all addons disabled - I renamed my Addons folder to something else and created a dummy one to take its place. Same result. Gmod just closes right the hell down.

Can you run with -condebug and then paste the last few lines of the created console.log? Does it create a dmp file?

I'm able to join at least 2 sandbox servers (That's all i tested)

But when i join a certain server i crash.

The console log doesn't have anything useful.

    Code:

Requesting texture value from var "$basetexture" which is not a texture value (material: gpurt)
Requesting texture value from var "$basetexture" which is not a texture value (material: gpurt)
Requesting texture value from var "$basetexture" which is not a texture value (material: gpurt)
Requesting texture value from var "$basetexture" which is not a texture value (material: gpurt)
The empty lines above it were intentional, they're actually in the console file - seems a bit odd.

    Dump file: http://www.mediafire.com/?9b0ude3lnh06qwc
Just as earlier, didn't appear in steam/dumps, it was in steam/steamapps/username/garrysmod instead, also again dumps.garrysmod.com says it isn't a dump file

Just tried connecting to a server on a fresh install of Gmod. It still shuts itself down after a few seconds. Here is a minidump for ya: http://filesmelt.com/dl/hl2_assert_2...5081434_1.mdmp

Interestingly, I was able to connect to an empty sandbox server without that issue, and the server tags said it's running gmod 131 still.

The version tag hasn't changed, my updated server still has garrysmod131 in it's tags.

I've tried running without addons, still no dice. gmod also is refusing to create a dump file anywhere.

Did you check in Steam/steamapps/username/garrysmod? I'm getting them there (not the usual place)

I deleted all addons from client and server and it worked, re-adding them one by one now to try and find the cause.

Solved it, it's ULX, if you join a ULX server as a superadmin it silently crashes your GMod.

I tested this. It crashes admins too, apparently.

Only superadmin and groups inherited from superadmin have the problem for me, I've posted on the ULX forums about it but I'm going to try and see if I can fix it myself now.

Apparently, yeah... all admin ranks on my server... guess we're going non-admin and using rcon for a while lol

Just ran a test on the Goon servers - seems that ULX admins and superadmins get the soft crash. This could be a ULX problem, but might be something up with gmod as well.

Setting myself as a superadmin in GMod via users.txt worked fine, uninstalling ULX fixes it.

To clarify, there's two different issues being discussed in this thread:

    1) First post had an issue where an addon apparently crashed gmod at startup. OP fixed it by removing and reinstalling all of his addons.

    2) There indeed appears to be a bug in which joining a server with ULX as an admin or superadmin causes a crash. We are currently looking into the issue and will get a fix out as soon as we can. You can view the thread about it on our forums here. Please continue discussion there or on a new thread on facepunch, as this thread topic really shouldn't have anything to do with ULX.

I had the issue where Garry's Mod closed without errors on the initial loading screen. The OP says he deleted his addons to fix it.

I can confirm that the addon causing the issue is in fact a script enforcer bypass XD

Unless there is some other mod that does it too.
