A CONTROVERSIAL new video game that lets players assassinate Adolf Hitler and shows graphic, "X-ray" footage of bullets tearing through people will be in the hands of Australian kids by Friday.

Just days before Sniper Elite V2 is released to the public it has been branded as "sick" by the Australian Christian Lobby.

Jim Wallace, of the Australian Christian Lobby, said the context of the violence was "rubbish" and the game should have been refused classification.

The Classification Board found the World War II setting of the title and its focus on "stealth techniques in the context of an historical war setting" meant the game could be rated MA15+.

I really hate how the article says this:
...will be will be in the hands of Australian kids by Friday.
It really annoys me since retailers are doing their job, as long as parents do their job we won't be having this damned issue.

Let's build a boxfort with this question, but has no one actually brought up-to the classification board that as wingless said if the retailers did their job it wouldn't be a problem?

It's making my brain hurt understanding their logic behind banning every game with blood and or 'tig ol' bittys.

Or instead of banning it you could, y'know, do what you're supposed to goddamn do and keep an eye on your kids and actually punish people who sell 15+ games to people who aren't old enough.

The ACL never knows what they're going on about, they want Gay rights stripped, video games banned and the internet censored so they don't have to figure out how to install a simple fucking program.

    They're fucking stupid.

I really hate saying this, but most of the people who say that are from the older generations, the ones who look at a game for 12 seconds, and without understanding, say that it's going to send the kids into violent, columbine style shootings.
Again, I hate saying this but sometimes I just can't wait for the older generations to fuck off and die.

Of course nobody would even bring it up if it was a book with explicit descriptions. I don't remember the Saw movies stirring up something like this either.

But ooooh it's videogames, we can't treat them equally because the immersion will turn people into madmen.

there's thousands of kids smart enough to handle this stuff, I was one of them when I was a kid, so is my sister. If the parent's see it as OK, THEY will judge it.

I honestly think we need to educate parents on what is right/wrong for their children and to enforce that they have the power to legally restrict them from upholding and acquiring movies, books, TV shows, video game, music and websites because it's the parents given right to protect their children from unsuitable content that they may not understand at a young age.

My parents did that and they slowly relaxed most of the things I could do as I was growing up so to me it's a more suitable way to handle this.

What I don't support is parents wanting the government to babysit their children because they "have no control", yes you have control you just don't enforce it well enough.

It's hard to believe some parents nowadays are so stupid at this, the government shouldn't be doing this, they should help you learn how to enforce these barriers so that they can properly handle what is suitable and what is not.

Yeah but that doesn't stop a kid going to the store and buying it. And the ACL isn't the government. Government makes policy, not fringe groups and reporters.

That's dumb. There are calls for censorship and regulation of games from political parties that have little or no influence from religious organisations.

Steam has to abide laws of the country it sells to. They can't legally sell banned games to Australians.

Parenting 101: CHECK WHAT VIDEOGAMES YOUR KID IS PLAYING.

"Rubbish violent games" ending up in the hands of children wouldn't be a problem if parents took some goddamn responsibility and stop acting like victims.

This entire "THINK OF THE KIDS" is bullshit, it's just an excuse for parents to blame and whine to someone else than themselves. If they were responsible parents they would see what kind of games their kids are playing, determine for themselves whether it is appropriate, and ALSO WHY ARE THEY BUYING R18 GAMES FOR THEIR KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

If you spent more time with your kid than 15 minutes worth of dinner each night, rather than naively constantly entrusting him/her to the "electronic babysitters", you'd at least have SOME degree of knowledge. The point here is that if (1) the stores make sure to not sell mature-rated games to minors and (2) the parents refrain from buying mature-rated games for their kid, there wouldn't be a problem at all.

Point (1) usually isn't the problem. Parents still have the ultimate responsibility for what their kid is doing, yet act like they have no control when the problem is in fact that they don't care enough. Parents today can't be bothered or are afraid to exercise some authority over their kids and would rather prefer to blame stores, publishers, developers etc.

Stop trying to fucking dictate other people ratings boards and rabid christians, for fucks sake!

How about leave ratings to the parents? Let them decide what they want their kid to see.

For the rabid christians, how about only bothering people who opt into your retarded faith in the first place? Let them opt in if they want to hear your shit otherwise leave them the fuck alone.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think WW2 would be the about best context for shooting a rifle at strangers, considering it had record high levels of it throughout the whole thing.
