It was used to show the type of person who would laugh because they owned a N64. Not imply everyone is the same who uses that (XD) acts the same, I just notice the same group using it.

I never found this show funny. It seems like they are trying too hard to be nerds and that most "nerds" aren't at all like the people on the show.

It doesn't really matter what produced the laughter. It's intended to have the same effect as a laugh track: it acts as a cue to the viewer. They don't want the audience to laugh whenever they feel like laughing, they want them to laugh when specifically the viewer is supposed to laugh and only then. That's why there's lots of awkward pauses in the dialogue, the actors are stopping so that the audience can laugh.

Besides, unless they perfectly memorise the script and don't mess up at all, the audience is going to have to see them mess up, alter the lines, and be forced to laugh again.

I would say it's not funny. My sister kept saying "OH YOU GOTTA WATCH THIS IT'S TOTAL NERD HUMOR", but it really isn't nerd humor at all. It's anti-nerd humor. It plays on the dumb stereotypes of nerds in a dumb way. I'm not one of those crusaders who say "this is bad for nerds blah blah blah", but don't try and pass this shit off as nerd humor.

Community has legitimate nerd humor. It isn't there to constantly remind you that the humor is nerdy, or that the characters are nerds. It uses intelligence and references only nerds will get.
