All the more reason to focus on high speed rail, right?

Well, all the more reason to focus on making healthier food, but that's too expensive for corporations to do on their own, and the government won't bother making them do it.

    Make healthier food??

Fat people are fat because they consume excess amounts of food period. The food selection is almost entirely irrelevant. There's no corporations to blame for fat people, they need to blame their poor eating habits.

Assuming the blame leads to action, probably.

This is america though so nothing will happen.

there's a reason why people have bad eating habits just as there is a reason why people commit suicide.

you wouldn't say someone who commits suicide should be blamed for having poor living habits.

    Uh yes. It would.

That's how you deal with this problem, do you really think telling mcdonalds or some other fucking company to reduce the caloric content of their food is going to do anything, or that they even should be forced to do some dumb shit like that?

People don't get fat by eating "bad" food, that's dumb and incredibly arbitrary. People get fat by consuming excess amounts of food period.

Get people to understand why they are getting fat, and get them to improve their eating habits, so then their offspring don't adopt the same terrible habits they have thus continuing the cycle.

healthy food costs allot more than unhealthy food. There is a reason why so many poor people are overweight.

Some people in this thread need to take a sociology class

oh boy here we go again

Even if that were true (it's not) there is no such thing as "bad food". I'll state this again for the people who still aren't grasping it: you get fat by consistently eating excessive amounts of food, or if you prefer, consuming more energy than your body needs to maintain it's current state. There are no magical "bad foods" that make you fat as soon as your body ingests it

    Edited:

The difference between the ridiculously dumb labels of "good" and "bad" food is negligible in the big picture.

Two apples have as much sugar/caloric content as a 375ml can of coke. The only difference here is the former has the small benefit of vitamins and minerals. If you really think there is something magically fattening about the can of coke that's not present in the apple because someone labelled it a "health food" you're retarded and I have nothing more to say to you.

Yeah I am not talking about apples

I am talking about how fast food chains' prices are very appealing to poor people and are heavily featured in poor area, while supermarkets avoid poor places.

I'm not discounting that there are aspects of sociology and ultimately societal influences, but it was proved in another thread we had a pages long argument over, that it's just as cheap to feed a family off non-fast food.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure a lot of unhealthy shit is added to food because it's cheaper / lasts longer that way.

Again, it's negligible in terms of what people are trying to blame on making people fat. Yes, there is a lot of shit like preservatives in fast food, shelf products and what not that is not terribly healthy in high amounts, but none of it can be blamed for making people fat.

    No.

Contrary to the desperate arguments of a couple of fatties on here, the vast majority of fat people are fat by their own fault.

And plenty of fat people have lost amazing amounts of weight through exercise and adopting better habits.

It's still amusing to me how it's only fat people who think they are somehow exempt from the law of thermodynamics. What's next, defying gravity?

Yeah I lost 20-18 kg over the course of two semesters. I can't tell you how much better I feel in words, you have to see me in person from past to present to see the difference.

Eating unhealthy just makes you unhealthy; Being skinny or even fit doesn't necessarily mean you're healthy.

Fatness comes from eating more than your body can burn off. Unhealthy food obviously doesn't help, but it's not the direct cause.

Some advocates for plus-size travelers are lobbying to have obesity considered a disability under the Americans With Disabilities Act
    NO.
I know that there are surely some things which cause overweight, sure. I don't have a problem with that and I can accept such things easily.

But to consider anyone who's obese automatically disabled just because he/she may cannot control their eating behavior or are just too fucking lazy to actually manage to get their asses up and move around is something different that shouldn't be considered a disability. It would simply harm all people who actually have real disabilities which aren't caused by themselves.

I'm not discounting that there are aspects of sociology and ultimately societal influences, but it was proved in another thread we had a pages long argument over, that it's just as cheap to feed a family off non-fast food.
Yeah. But to be honest: Eating at a fast food restaurant every other day is way more expensive than actually buying some better food in a supermarket - at least where I live. If I get to McDonalds, I easily end up with paying 10 to 20 bucks. I can get a lot more stuff with the same amount of money and will probably feel less hungry afterwards - perhaps I can even live of that a few days longer. And by even increasing the amount of money I can probably live off probably about 50 bucks a week - I will be nurtured, not hungry and things still don't have to taste like crap or being ridiculously stuffed up with fat and stuff. Sure, I have to get to the supermarket myself and cook myself, but that's the least of my concerns.
