Personally, i think that these days always saddens the ones that lost their fathers and mothers, and the orphans. I also think that you shouldn't love your mother and father in only one single day, but everytime you should care about them. Removing these days from a country, would be easier for public, but alot of companies benefit greatly from this, by making discounts, and stuff like that, so they wouldn't leave it easily.
Sorry about the title, couldn't find anything else.

I don't think they're really taken all that seriously, just like Christmas where people give gifts to each other. I've never really bothered with it but if people want to then that's up to them.

How would it be easier for the public? Not everyone has lost a parent or is an orphan.

It's a card holiday, like valentines day. It doesn't matter one way or the other.

Removing these days from a country
How would it even be possible to "remove" it?

We can't get rid of Mother's Day, the last thing Congress voted unanimously on!

    Personally, I'm waiting for Brother's Day, Sister's Day, Son's Day, Daughter's Day, Aunt's Day, Uncle's Day...

    I want a me's day.

    Edited:

But yeah, I kinda want it gone, 'cause I ALWAYS forget it and that ALWAYS makes my mother hate me for a month afterwards. Maybe it'd be better if it was locked to an actual date, instead of some bullshit like 'second sunday of may'. Who the fuck knows when that is?!

Out of all the people in the world that celebrates it, maybe 10% of them actually have no mother or father. And I don't think you can talk about how it "hurts" people who have lost theirs. I have a friend, when he was young both his parents died. Every mothers day he pays tribute to her. Its sad of course but its a day to remember them. He seems more at peace around Mother's Day.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Mother's Day and Father's Day. I swear, the debate section is turning into "Hipster (Challenge the status quo) debate forum"

If you had parents who treated you like dirt, these days would simply serve to make you feel worse, to make you feel like you're the one at fault, not them. And that's besides the fact that if you need to devote one day to thank your parents you're a horrible person.
So yeah, I think we should do away with it.

Given that immortality doesn't exist, eventually everyone won't have a mother or father.

Celebrate it by being nice to your mother/father but I despise commercialisation of these holidays.

If you don't agree with it or don't have anyone to celebrate it with, then don't celebrate it. Despite how commercialized the holiday is, it's still a nice way to show appreciation to your parents.
