Yes I know, does anyone know any good programs to make decent graphics?

I tried using Adobe Illustrator, but it's really confusing, unless someone has a great tutorial :P

It's usually not about the tools you use, you should learn about basics of drawing/color/design/styles and so on. I am making a windows phone game too (screenshot: http://i42.tinypic.com/1zexxsg.png)
and all the art was made using Photoshop.

The best tool is usually the one you work faster to achieve good results. If you don't have the patience to learn about all that stuff a small team of programmer(s) and artist(s) work quite well :)

At least you didn't do what most people who makes this kind of game do, and just release the XNA shooter tutorial and say you made it. I'll try it out later when I get the chance.

LOL! :D No, I actually spent two months on it, and damn, it came out to be 5000 lines of code because I had to create my own Game System and everything. It would of been retarded if everything was in one Update and Draw Loop :)

I am working on version 1.1 right now as we speak.

Well, the update will be done in 2 days, it should be certified on Friday, I assumed in 2 weeks in case Microsoft finds a bug.

    So within two weeks :D

Also, thank you Chuteuk for buying the application <3

It looks OK, but I think what bothers me more than anything else are your color choices. The best example is probably the main menu and dialogs, where you have white text on a lime green background.

Not a fan of outlines/drop-shadow or linear gradient highlights, either. I know it's kind of low of me to pick apart your programmer art, but you can probably take it as a good sign that I don't have any immediate criticism of the mechanics.

    Edit:
It may be a little simplistic, though. More guns? Faster-paced play? I'd look to classic bullet hell games for inspiration.
Also, the ship kinda tilts weird. I can see it tilting back when you're accelerating upward, but it shouldn't stay tilted back after you stop accelerating.

Yeah a Youtube Video cannot really represent the game well. On the Windows Phone, it is very legible and it's even better on a AMOLED screen.

Yeah, I am not really an artist :P I just learned how to PhotoShop less than a month ago and I really have no keen "artistic side" :(

Maybe for my next game I will get one of my arty friends or just get better at it.

I could improve the tilt, but I think for a 1.1 release it is sufficient. But trust me after Level 10 the asteroids come at you really fast.

Level 100 asteroids are so fast they pass in 0.33 seconds.

    :D

1.2 may have more guns and stuff, but....

16 hours of programming hurts :(

I wouldn't say that user interface design has much to do with being artistic. You just have to remember a few simple rules.
First and foremost is don't put light text on light backgrounds or vice-versa.

I'd also avoid separating things into individual boxes when it isn't necessary. Each of your main menu buttons has its own little box, which, IMHO, is a bit much. Look at any of Valve's recent game menus. All of the menu buttons are just simple text. No little box around it.
What you can do is have a full-height backdrop behind the menu options, so that people understand that it's a menu and not a bunch of random floating text (see Unreal Tournament 3's menu for an example of this style).

My next game will be created with a XNA and Silverlight backend so I can utilize those controls.

I would be able to concentrate on the game not on the menu.

Think the music's a little out of place. Don't generally think Danny Boyle when I see pixel art. Think you need to work on your UI a lot those buttons could defiantly use some improvement overall a good effort though :P keep it up

Hey dude, First off, I LOVE the music. Sounds a lot like the music from that one movie "The Divide" Probably is. And the game looks awesome! I will sure as hell buy it. Good luck! Keep up the good work!

Yeah that music I added in, but it has similar music for the menu ONLY. The main game music is techno, and depending on the Mission (Mars or Earth), there is different electronic music.

Can you stop listing technical features as features if you're making a game?

Well, I could of not added a per-pixel collision engine, if I wanted to. How would you know? It's kind of like knowing what type of game engine a game is running, isn't that something you want to know?

Soar 1.1 is released! Check it out!
