It's a real shame they deviated from Drew Kershaws planned ending but I think there was more wrong with the game than just the end. The game spends a lot of time wrapping up the stories from the previous games (as it should) but the main story is severely underdeveloped there are only a handful of conversations throughout that add anything to the Reapers fiction. The main focus of the game ought to have been on discovering how to defeat the Reapers, with Cerberus and galactic unification being tangential rather than the pretty much the whole game. I also feel they just uncovered the Crucible way to soon then never bothered explaining anything to do with it.

Interested to see what this adds but I wonder if this can salvage what was to me one of the weakest, disappointing and nonsensical endings in any medium.

I didn't like how in ME3 they used character death as a drama device and to tie up lose plot points. That's just terribly cheap writing. Character death should be used in small doses as to not lose impact, and should be crucial in such a way it actually drives the story forward and leads to relevant character development.

Like Eli in HL2. You know that death will have a huuuge impact on several characters and the status of the Resistance he led. People will be forced into completely different roles, plans will have to be revised, characters will develop completely differently, with different motivations and goals in mind.

Meanwhile in ME3 the Cutscene Stupidity Virus is running amok.

They changed the ending from the one Drew Kapshyrn had originally intended (which made a hell of a lot more sense). They have no right to say that they're preserving their "artistic integrity".

Karpyshyn's ending was even worse, in my opinion. The Reapers annihilating organics and forcefully integrating them into their forces to stop the spread of 'dark matter'? How the hell does that make any sense.

At least you don't have    Mass Relays exploding for no reason and Joker abandoning the battle, also for no reason, only to get stranded on some random planet. It also means that if Shepard decided to blow off the Reapers that would actually mean that all of his/her choices would matter in the long-run, and have far-reaching consequences, provided that the races of the galaxy managed to stop the dark matter problem.

Dark energy, not dark matter. The stuff that creates mass effect fields, the stuff that comes from element zero. Remember what happened to that one sun in ME2? It was expanding because a dark energy/mass effect field was lowering its mass so it couldn't hold itself together through gravity.
Now imagine that happening throughout the galaxy.
The series is even fucking named for it.

Because humanity is special and will use their clever monkey tricks as portrayed in the game already to stop the expansion. The choice at the end of the game was to either sacrifice humanity to gain a guaranteed stop or to destroy the reapers and wing it with your new alliance and hope you had enough time and tech to stop it yourself, which is a damn sight better than having a shotalolicon hologram you've never fucking seen before offer three choices that are literally the same fucking thing with color and cast mate difference. The current ending is fucking retarded.
