Or a musicman stingray. But I chose it for its funky ass slap tone and powerful growl. Those musicman pickups are bloody incredible.
And the build quality... incredible.
I was never keen on the Rickenbakers, But that's not a discussion for here.
If you can afford to get a Cort GB* Series,
GET ONE I Have one and Have had a few in my hands, The quality is consistent, the tone on them isn't bad and the necks are slim and fast. I got mine for £275 used.
Did I mention they have a locking Neutrik jack?
And... It looks sexy:

Depends if you are willing to pour more money into starting, personally I would, As you spend more, the higher percentage you will redeem if you sell it!
Edit:
Also just noticed the OP bass is a RBX374 - I own one of these too, In silver:
Now, It's a really nice bass when set up correectly, however there's one thing I dislike about it:
The painted neck chips
VERY Easy
It drinks battery power like no tomorrow - It saps them dry. - SO REMEMBER TO UNPLUG THE LEAD FROM THE BASS WHEN NOT IN USE (it disconnects the battery when you do so)
It's a VERY good bass for metal, Lacks growl but cuts through your average rock band no problem.
Put a set of DR lo-riders on there and it has a rockin' slap tone.
It stays in tune well.
It has a 3 band EQ on it, If you boost the Highs and lows you can coax out some more funk!
All in all, A VERY good bass - I don't use it as much as my cort or stingray but I wouldn't sell it... Ever.
Something else to note, The pickups have a cutaway for your thumb! - No more screw-shaped imprints on your thumb!
*phew* that's alot of words.
Edit:
An improvised sound sample of the Yamaha (with some Tell-me-baby in there):

Some finger style then some slap, on just about flat EQ settings with 1 month old strings.
I'll upload a sound sample of any of the other basses if you wish - I have recording equipment on hand.
Personally, I say go for the yamaha, Seriously nice bass for the price.
