I chose agent instead. I hate melee. I'm having fun with it so far, but it's pretty weak.
not sure. i heard quite alot about agents.
Agents are fun. They do HUGE damage with their aimed shot, goes up to 13000 damage for high level characters. Downside is that doing massive damage will give you aggro fast, and agents are weak and can't take many hits.
Agents can use false profession aswell, which means they can change into any other profession by casting a nano. (using a fp nano will give you a big -nanoskills, huge +nanocost and -castingspeed) You can also go in concealment (become invisible) which is great for surpriseattacks or sneaking past people in pvp and pve.
One of the last bosses in the subway drops an agentrifle which is decent at low levels. There is a complete set of Shadowfade agent only armor that drops from any cultistboss in the temple, the guardian of the tree drops bracers that add rifle and aimed shot.
i've seen those drop in totw. But the boss in the subway..he's really aweful. Too strong.
For first timers, DO NOT FUCKING GO ENGINEER.
Seriously, unless you have someone spoon feeding you credits, you are going to be broke until about level 50.
My first toon was an engineer (Engineerdk, if anyone wants to know) and it was fucking hell to play as him. In other words:
I don't understand that. Where would all the credits go to?
I found it hard to even find a better gun at store. Mind you that i didn't leave the subway yet. And i went pistol route, for some reason.
When you start getting into higher levels, your credits will literally pour outta your pockets. Even at low levels, for classes like traders, they can buy a shotgun that does tremendous damage, but costs 30 million, all the way up to 60 million. And for the combined armor series, UGH Don't get me started. A ql 300 set is like a little over a billion. While 30 million to 60million is practically chump change for high level players, for low levels, it is not. 60 million will keep most characters up to date for levels 1-60. At 60, that's when the stuff starts to get expensive.
I rolled an engineer because I was feeding him credits from my level 205 doctor. It was so epic...Having bots 40 levels above you, in the sewers, MAN it was great soloing that boss in the tunnels. But then I realized how boring it got because I put all my skills into my bot, instead of guns, and my health was terrible because I rolled a nanomage.
Finding a better gun at the store for either froob or paid accounts can be very difficult, because most of the good stuff is found from missions as drops, rewards, from bosses to playermade.
Also Sami, good to see you went the pistol route. Pistols are extremely good! While 1he can deal better damage, the pistols are usually much easier to obtain, and most people prefer guns over blades. And pistols are much better for PVE.
One last thing, yes Engineer I wouldn't suggest for newbies. It's a pretty difficult profession, I had trouble with it myself. And it gets VERY boring if you do nothing but bots. It doesn't work very well either. For newbies, like all have said, go either Doctor, Adventurer, or Enforcer. Great classes!
ONE last thing, I would really suggest you do NOT, I Repeat DO NOT roll an agent as a first character. Sooner or later, you will mess up the skillpoints. And it is very difficult to play correctly. I stood clear of Agents.
I've decided, I'll make multiple characters. Whichever one I have the most fun with, I'll stick with.
If you can be arsed to level up an (tradeskilling) engineer (they suck in pvp and high level pve) you got a decent moneymaking source. Not alot of Tradeskillers on Rubi Ka these days, so if you have decent tradeskills you can help lots of people out for tips. Once you get a lvl200 bot you can also farm high level missions for money, they bag 1-2m each easily, which the ocasional good drop that goes for 10m-200m. I still farm ql275 missions on my 220 crat, as it's a great independent way of getting some fast credits.
Same goes with traders, people easily pay 1m per 131 wrangle. (I know i do). There's always people in the shoppingchannels spamming for wrangles.
It isn't Abmouth Supremus that drops the rifle, it's the guy in the room before him. Abmouth Supremus is a though bastard, he doesn't drop the best stuff either. Some leveling ring that adds NCU is about the best you can get from him, sells for 500k.sami1337 posted:
My very first toon was a soldier that i completely fucked up by just raising random skills like smg and energy weapons. Mainly because i had no clue what i was doing. But if you read some guides first you can't really go wrong with any profession, especially because you get quite a few resetpoints to erase mistakes. Do some research before you start spending those IP points.hahaha221 posted:
This is actually a very great idea! It will take time to figure out what you prefer, but try to find a class based on what you like. My very first character was a doctor because I loved being able to take damage, deal a bit, and help out others.
The only problem with Anarchy Online mainly is simply because of its challenge for new players, it can be difficult for new players to do what they want to do. Never the less, even if I tell you you should avoid that class that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it! It's just a bit of advice to make sure you experience the best of the game, without the frustration
Also Bowser, good to hear you were able to fix your soldier. For most I've seen though this is rare.
I didn't, i didn't even know about resetpoints back then. I had no clue what i was doing so i deleted him, searched for some guides and information and started an Adventurer. That toon was a shitloads better, and i got it to 165 as a froob. After that i started paying and started several new toons.hahaha221 posted:
yesterday i teamed with a doctor and 2 metephysicists or however you spell that. holy smokes, i didn't run out of hp while tanking for legionnaires. Even lien went pretty well, although i had to run at the last moment, but we still got it.
No dark memory for me (we rolled for it) but i found one earlier on the corpse of lien
spending ip on nano related stuff is such a ip drain for me. :(
I really need these dark memories to increase my pool.
Thing is, I'm a people person. I'd only REALLY enjoy the game if I had someone to accompany me at the island and help me out, then move on to the mainland, etc. If anyone could be arsed to do that, that would make things a LOT easier, as it's very difficult and slow to solo things myself.
Edit: I also get bored VERY quickly if I'm by myself. Just pointing out. It's also easier if I have a constant way to talk to someone, which is why I suggested MSN or steam.
holy shit. really, the newb island should not really take long. just kill some stuff and do the newby armor quest.
For some reason there are not many people online.
Probably because it's Christmas. When they release the new engine loads of old players will return making it hopefully as crowded as it was 3 years ago when i started.
Also, if you want company ingame i suggest looking for a organisation.
Dear fucking god I hate doctors. They are almost as bad as the medic in TF2.
I was at 150/769 health, and I was in a team with me (engineer), my bot (level 40), a soldier, an enforcer, and a single doctor. The soldier and enforcer were all buffed to hell by the doctor, but they were a good 5-7 levels below me, and I was dealing out nearly 2x the damage they were, and I was just an engineer with the engineer tinkering pistol.
Long story short, the medic completely ignored me, while I was getting aggro'd (the enfo and soldier were doing jack shit to help) and the doctor just kept on healing them, even though they weren't helping, while I was practically dead.
Anyway, I died, and then I got a PM from the soldier complaining.
:sigh:Code:Y DID U NOT HELP WTF IS UR PROGBLM OMFG U STUPD NOOB U MAD US DIE WTF U NUB
I didn't realise so many people liked this game when I made the thread :D. I just wish I could join you guys.
Just challenge them to a duel. That'll make them shut their mouths.lorden posted:
that sounds lame. Didn't happen to me yet.lorden posted:
I tend to instruct the team doctor on what to do. If i am not the tank, then i won't ask for healing. I'll heal myself with items. Otherwise i'll let them know.
If you keep getting aggro as an engineer in a full team then it's probably time to find a better team. If a soldier or enforcer can't steal aggro from an engineer then they suck horribly.
Also, let your Bot deal the first few hits before you start firing. This will put him above you on his hatelist, which makes it more likely he holds aggro over you. You can also try and find a Trimmer - Increase Aggressiveness. Use it on your robot to make it hold aggro better. As engineer your robot should be taking the damage, not you.
tanking doesn't really happen in the subway though. That's the job of over equiped people.
Then join us! :Dninjaguy4 posted:

What did I hear about a new engine? I tried this game, but it was kind of slow (I probably rolled an engie) and the graphics were pretty bad.
Funcom is working on a new engine for the game. I hope it fixes the rain. It looks terrible and it takes the feeling out of the game.Titan! posted:
rain looks terrible? Matches with the graphics really.
Hope the new engine fixes the flickering hud glitch.
Shadowlands and Alien Invasion looks much better graphicswise though. I'm not really bothered with the graphics to be honest, don't forget this game got released in 2001.
Finding it tougher and tougher to find a team to play with at totw. it sucks.
I wanna spend like and hour or more with one team, killing boss after boss. getting everyone the gear they want.
Not stupid 3 man teams, not capable of killing a boss.
All the action is at Shadowlands.sami1337 posted:

What server are you on?sami1337 posted:
I'm on my laptop, I hope it'll work on my older version of WINE.
Ok, atleast the downloader thing booted up.
The problem for me is that in each of the missions, the setting is all the same. And I find that I must do <50 missions in this one place. It gets real tedious.
And the mission objectives aren't really different either.
Fuck something cut my download speed in half.
I see a motherfucker outside in a van with a laptop and I have a fake gun that looks like a real gun in the house..
What server you guys play on?
I have come to the conclusion that the UI is a piece of shit.
I couldn't even figure out how to do the fucking upload cordinates thing even thought there were instructions but nothing happened when I followed the instructions.
