I'm trying to stay UNDER 125$.
I will be gaming:
L4D
Hl2:DM
CS:S
Gmod
Tf2
DoD:S
My resolution will be at 1280x1024.
I was thinking:
9800GTX
4850
Any suggestions?

4850
4870 if you can afford it
I looked at the '70, and I think I found a 1gig for around 140. It's not that much more, but do I really need it for my kind of gaming?

4870 $130 with free shipping

Mhmm, you don't really need it, but it might be nice.
How much of a difference does 512/1GB make?
Your res doesn't really need 1GB of VRAM.
Right. So if not, I should be able to get a 4850 for ~100$. Is it worth it to spend more for that card?
Also, I'll be on a quad-core @ 2.2ghz, so I don't think bottlenecking is a problem.
4850 for $100 is great for your needs.
One more question. Does it matter from why company I buy the card from? There's HIS, XFX, Gigabyte, Sapphire, Diamond, etc. Does it make a difference besides the price?
If you can get the 4870 1GB, I personally would, just for future proofing. I never expected to get a new monitor when I got my 9800GTX 512MB and I'm regretting not getting a 1GB version now.
That's what I was originally planning, and I have:
512 4850-110$
1024 4850-125$
512 4870- 130$
1024 4870- 150$.
And yeah, I think I'm planning on upgrading my monitor to ~ 22'', or 24'', whatever I find, within about 8 months.
I used to use a 1280x1024(17"), and 512MB was fine for it. But now I got a 1920x1080(23") and I set up a dual screen between both of those and now I'm finding 512MB lacking on newer games.
Then get the 1gig version..
Don't get a 1GB 4850.
You're gonna be expanding your gaming horizons when you can run pretty much every game reasonably well on the market![]()
Ooh, if you're planning on getting a new monitor, go for the 4870 1GB.
Get a 1GB 4870.

Stop ninja'in me.
I don't think I'll be doing much other gaming besides the valve games I listed; possibly some other free Hl2 mods, but I don't spend much on gaming. Should I still get a 1024?
I still think it's worth it, you never know what the future might bring.
Because, oddly enough, I find myself more than content with 5-6 games.
If you want a 1GB card, get a 4870 1GB.
The 4850 1GB, frankly, ain't that hot.
The way I see it is, go with the 4870 1GB and then you wont regret it later on if you get new monitors or start playing more demanding games.
But what I need to know is whether or not a 1GB is required. I WILL be getting a high-end (22''+) monitor within 8 months, but for the gaming I have, is-it-worth-it?
Edited:
4870 1GB all the way.
I would say yes.
On another note, are you going to be using both monitors?
OP, don't go for the 1GB 4850.
Go for a 1GB 4870. It's the best choice for you right now.
Na. My dad's monitor is flickering (sign of death), so he'll be taking my 19'' and buying me a 2X''.
*Edit
stop ninja .-.
I would still say get a 4870 1GB. No way you'll regret it later.
Yeah, alright. Now for my other question; does it matter which brand I buy it from? EG: XFX, Sapphire, Diamond, etc?

Oh yeah, and are there any price-comparible NVIDIA cards?
Nope.
Only issue is price.

Look for free shipping, as well.

Also, some brands have better warranties, some are more reliable (SPARKLE BLOWS!), some are overclocked, some have non-reference coolers, but for the most part, no difference.
This is good then?

Thank you!
Anything else I should know about?
Go for it.
You need a 512. Crysis is the only game (aside from GTAIV) that utilizes almost all of the RAM in 1GB. I think it was 624MB that crysis uses.
Your name sums up your advice quite well.

Listen to the emoticons, they speak truth
yeah it was made for the GTX 768MB that is why 1gb cards do much better than 512 FOR THAT GAME
